Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

Update - Custom Gas Filler Venting

I ended up welding a 1/2" SS NPT fitting on my filler cap. 1/2" hose will connect to tank vent. This way my vent is sealed in case of a rollover. Still have my rollover vent too venting to atmosphere for heat expansion/etc.

Still need to clean up the welds but you get the idea. Gas pump nozzle will go past my vent in cap so it should vent properly eliminating slow fills and burps. I should be able to finish install this weekend, waiting on one last part for tubing/hose.

Far right is 1/2" vent line.

Middle is the Filler hose.

Far left is my rollover vent hose. This probably doesn't need to be ran all the way up to filler, I will most likely shorten this hose and mount to bed rail. Also need to switch this to fuel line instead of vacuum line.

FYI: mock-up stage.

Using 21 Gallon 67-72 Burb Tank.

Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

Looks good, I'll take one too! Did you buy a kit to start with for the sheet metal bracket? If you made it, do you happen to have the template? I really like the whole setup.

I will be starting this soon. I just finished up a big order on my project for the driveline. While I wait, I plan to install my Boyd's tank.

Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

Thanks man. I saw the gas filler panel online somewhere, it was being sold for like $150 or $200 maybe. It was too much. So I built mine from scratch. I posted about it a couple pages back in my thread. It was about a days worth of work and some scrap sheet I had lying around. Used washers for the mounting tabs. Originally I wanted to run it up the rear stake pocket and fill from top of bed but then I realized from others guys it wasn't very easy to fill there, and I also wanted a tonneau cover that seals good. This design i liked best.

Looking good. The filler set up looks familiar. Keep it up.

Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

It's just my opinion but I think some of the guys get too wrapped up in these roll-over vents. Don't get me wrong, they're a good idea, but my truck is not a daily driver. It's a nice weather weekend driver. As such, I decided to go with just a venting system. I'm not looking to start a whole discussion on roll-over vents. This was just my decision not to use one.

If you look at the Rick's Tank in the picture, you'll see two vent locations. I was told to tie both of those together into a section of fuel hose and coil it up near the bottom of the bed, or on top of the tank. Rick's also said if I wanted to use just one of the connections I could try it to see if it works alright. I plugged the one connection and installed a barbed fitting on the other. I ran my vent line up inside the passenger side bed wheel well where it is concealed and protected. It is higher then the fill connection, which is what I wanted.

I was told same thing, but the more I look at how the factory engineers design these today and have been doing for long time I figured this wasn't something I shouldn't take lightly. If you get into a crash, you wouldn't want fuel spilling out on ground especially if the cab is downhill of tank and fuel is running towards you, then something ignites that fuel while your trapped inside.

That's my reasoning anyway. By putting the vent in the cap, the cap seals off the vent when driving. Then the rollover vent (separate vent from fuel filler) allows heat expansion and etc during sitting and driving, but cuts off fuel during rollover. Plus it's tiny compared to the 1/2" vent inside fuel fill cap. 1/2" vent line would spill quite a bit of fuel out during a wreck pretty quickly.

I like this forum for everyone's opinion, whether I use that advice or not it's good to hear what everyone does so we can all make our own final decisions. No right or wrong, just what we do right?

Lots of good constructive feedback on here. TA-I like how you routed your vent line to the filler - that seems very factory and clean.

Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

Update - Gas Filler Completed.

Well the vent works. Got it all connected, drive down to gas station first time ever, filled it full. Still playing with fasteners but it's pretty much done. I was able to fill tank full speed via gas pump nozzle. But I had to find the sweet spot to do so. Rollover vent is working too as I didn't have vapor lock driving around. Very happy.

I found this small lip seal on Amazon, used it to protect the filler line from sheet metal over time(rubbing).

Used one of the bed floor SS bolts to hold the floor side fastened. Looks good to me I may leave this.

The side fastener however is just a cheap washer and screw. I may install a rivnut in the sheet metal and use a SS bolt for final, we will see.

I had about a 1/4 tank when I got to pump. Filled her up(21 gallon tank), gauge reads full.

Update - Bumpers!!!

Boom. Brothers Trucks Chrome bumpers. They still have the grease on them so they are a little blueish, but they installed well and look good IMO. The bumpers that came on this truck were the farm bumpers, got rid of those. They prob aren't as strong as factory style, but they will do for this ol heap...

Didn't realize I needed the rear bumper center box for license plate area, I am doing the flip down license plate to hide my trailer hitch so I gotta order that still.

Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

Update - Seat belts, seat, speaker brackets

Ripped out the seat, installed my rear speaker brackets from brothers(painted to match), seat belts(re-using what came with truck), and finished up some wiring under seat.

I had pre-drilled the holes already last year when I was doing all the metal work. I drilled them in the factory locations, but the driver side was a little off for some reason. The hole is supposed to go through the floor pan, AND the cab support underneath for added seat belt pull-through protection. Factory welded the nuts underneath. I ended up just using nyloc lock nuts and huge thick washers for another layer of protection/support. All new grade 8 hardware used.

Driver side the hole ended up being just a little too close to the support so I had to bent the washer to fit. No big deal.

I finally pulled off that ugly cheap seat cover that I put on a couple years ago so the seat wouldn't get damaged in the garage over the years working on the truck. Glad I did cuz it still looks pretty decent.

I ended up mounting my seat belts towards the back of cab, this was the best method to keep the belts from touching during use. Plus, it keeps it out of the way, they are kinda ugly anyways.

You're down to some finishing touches and the hood now! Very functional truck in a unique color. I have a set of the Brothers speaker enclosures on the way - do they feel pretty substantial?

Thanks man, I just returned from vacation and I'm ready to get that hood done. I managed to get the truck insured while I was away. Now I'm sitting at Firestone waiting to get it aligned and inspected. Then it's off to local paint supply for some glaze and body filler hardener. Few other supplies as well. Start bodyworking the hood this week and hopefully get her in paint.

Potter I forgot to mention, those speaker brackets are real solid once installed. I plan to slap some killmat on the backside when I get speakers to install. I have killmat and closed cell foam in the cab corners. Should do pretty good for sound I think.

The order showed up but they sent brackets that are meant for squarebody's...

They look pretty substantial but like you said I was planning on sticking some sound deadening to them and maybe stuffing some foam in the corners.

Thanks, it really is exciting to drive it around. I have insurance but not inspected or registered yet so back of my mind a ticket still in my future. I just hope the cop is a car guy/gal if/when I do get pulled over LOL.

Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

Few updates and some future stuff going on.

I'm going to be trying something new. BrothersTrucks just came out with their flush mount license plate box. It raises the license plate to be flush with bumper rather than hang down 1 and 3/4" like stock. It's going to be tricky with plans to make it work with hidden hitch. Not designed for that. But I am determined to make it happen. I like the flush look and I had forgot to order my license box for bumper. It's the first commercially available flush mount box I have seen and brothers says it wasn't designed to work with it, so I am on a mission to prove them wrong Stay tuned.

https://www.brotherstrucks.com/1967-...tinfo/FLPB787/

And here is my thread on it as well in general section:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=815808

Other update. Radio is installed and wired up. Thanks to 71StepSide I was ahead of the curve troubleshooting the source of the yellow wire(AAW harness, radio bat +) to clock fuse. Why they did that I dunno. They also only supplied a 10amp fuse for that circuit but if you use it for radio battery connection, you need to step that up to a 20 amp.

I have the retrosound radio, and decided to mount the microphone for phone calls. Well it clamps onto the little flat spot on tilt rod next to column like it was made for it. So then I just ran the wire underneath the "column to dash" rubber grommet and called it a day. It works great too, called the wife on it from garage

Another cool feature on that radio, if you turn the feature on, it syncs the clock automatically when you sync your phone via bluetooth. So you never have to set your clock manually on the radio.

Clock synced here as soon as I connected my phone to bluetooth.

Here is the microphone that comes with radio. I am in the middle of finishing up "buttoning up" all my dash harness wiring as well. It's a mess right now

Radio comes with male "bullet style" connectors, so I had purchased a kit of those already for other things and used just the female ends on the AAW harness connectors for radio connections. Worked really clean.

Re: TA_C10: Stage 1

I must have gotten lucky with my radio install - I didn't have any issues hooking it up to the AAW harness and making it work.

My microphone is just hanging under the dash...I don't know if it will be useful with the volume of the exhaust. It seems like the farther I press the pedal down, the louder it gets.
