Question Speedo Swap

I currently have the elcheapo idiot light dash pod on my truck, but I am planning on swapping it out for guage cluster. Can I take the speedometer from my current truck and use it in the New cluster? I'd kind of like to keep the original miles and all associated with the stock speedo. Just a little detail I would like to retain.

Is it much to change out the parts with these dash clusters??

Thanks

Yes, you can but do not plug the guage dash into the none guage wiring harness you will burn something up. You have to change a few wires in the plug. I have a copy of the wiring digram if you would like on were to move the wires.

The Speedo and Fuel guage in my GMC (with optional guages) camr out of the old longhorn witch had the base model anel in it.
DO NOT just plug in the new inst panel to your base guages....you will cray when your fuel guage does about 5 laps around and then quit in a puff of smoke. Also, your dash light s will NOT work properly.

Go down the page just a bit, and you'll see the instructions on converting your existing wiring plug, to a gauge dash plug.

Good luck,

TJ

Oh yeah..I knew about the wiring. I will probably be redoing all the wiring anyways. A Mississippi Farmer is like sorta like Andy's dope smokin old man when it comes to wiring. I think I would probably feel safer with a new correct harness, then try to redo something I am not sure what was modified in the middle.
