Today I pulled the carpet back and really took a good at the rust damage. Not looking too good

Rockers, floor pans (3inch away from the sill/rocker) Cab corners, Cab mount rails front and rear.
It doesn't have A/C either.

What im wondering is, since I know very little about body work and would have to find someone to trade out with or pay to do this work... Is it a lost cause? I'm thinking I should just find another cab.

What do you guys think?

It sounds like you are in almost as bad of shape as my current cab is. I bought a cab that needs alot less work complete with doors for $150 and discovered later that I paid way too much for the cab, If you look around, you should be able to find a decent cab pretty cheap. If you are looking to have bodywork done, it would most likely be cheaper to change cabs instead of having all that work done to the one you have now.

I don't know if you would want to do this but the rockers and cab corners and other sheet metal if fairly cheap. Now would be the perfect oppourtunity for you to learn body work!

Runs well... working on body.
Plan to get painted weekend before memorial day weekend.
Planned to be done March 7 when I turned 16. Didn't happen. Chose to do better job and be behind schedule instead of 1/2 doing it and it looking like junk.

about $500 for everything needed to repair the rusted areas, then a mig welder, some cutting and grinding tools, a place out of the weather, plenty of time, and a desire to want to do it is all it takes.

Also an air compressor and some painting equipment wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Thats the one thing I have never learned is body work. I do very well with automotive repair and I'm very picky about work I turn out... which is why im worried about tackling this project (although it would save me alot of $$$)

Cab prices truly depend on where you are in North America. The $150 cab in Nebraska is worth $1k+ here or anywhere in the rust belt. For that kinda money, I'm a weldin' fool! You can do it yourself. It's just rockers, tons of folks have done 'em, and the floor which is covered by carpet. Go for it and good luck.

Sounds like a typical cab to me! LOL (I live in Pa)

I look at it this way, unless you can find a perfect cab, (practically impossible) your better off just fixing your old one if it's in reasonable condition.

If you have to replace rockers, does it really matter if you have to go a bit further and replace the outer floor area? Most of these trucks are rotted there anyway. Mine was. All the panels are available and not hard to install.

Rockers are the first thing to go on these trucks. So are cab corners, floor supports and then floors. (unless you have a west coast truck)

I've done mine and things turned out great! (and I never did this type of work before)

I struggle along with my $199 dollar Craftsman wire feed welder, a $10 dollar grinder, and a $5.00 spot weld cutter. LOL

If you ever wanted to learn this type of work, this is the best place to start. You don't have to worry about warping as no one would see it anyway.

dont forget southern states like AR, etc... they dont ave even 25% of the rust up here, i saw this personally... its freaky the trucks are so clean down that way..... it was harder to find a hole in a cab down there than to find a rotted out trashed one, unlike across the center of the country where you wont find one without holes in it unless is from south or west or is full of bondo.

sell them a complete almost rust free truck for 400 its a rolling chassis only part of bed thats gd is the steel floor is perfect!
i have fenders etc

anyone wants this stuff lemme know.

only thing is the bed and front clip are off it....also coming with the truck are brand new energy suspension cab bushings.
and a rust free rad support.

i know this stuff is worth way more but i need parts for my 69 el camino...
