engine hoist

HI does anyone have a recommindation on a chery pickers. Or ones to stay away from. I need to pull the 400 out of my 72 and swap with a 350. I will be wanting to use the picker also to lift the cab as well as the bed. I will have semi smooth surface to work on. The 30 will be comming out of a lifted 76 on 35's not sure if that is worth mentioning or not.

thanks for any imput

Mike

Re: engine hoist

I got mine at Kragens. I think it was a $139 with a load leveler. Seems to be fine even lifting the BB in and out of my truck..

Re: engine hoist

I got mine from Harbor Freight and have pulled many motors and lifted beds and cabs with mine ...no problem.

Re: engine hoist

I've been very happy with my Harbor Freight hoist - well made, good welds, nice reach...and it folds up!

Re: engine hoist

I got 2 from Costco (the 1st one kind of "went away") and I have no complaints with either. The 2nd one came with a leveler & both folded up for easy storage.

Re: engine hoist

I got one from Sam's club -- its labelled "Goodyear Racing" and is a snappy looking blue and yellow color, but is of chinese manufacture.

Its more than enough for a big block and tranny combo when its extended out as far as it goes (the lightest setting with the most reach)

and i just unloaded a heavy box blade from a trailer with it last week -- the load leveller works pretty good

I probably paid too much for it, but i dont remember it being over 200 dollars and it may have been quite a bit lower than that ----

Re: engine hoist

I bought mine at schucks. Its a cheapo. I'm happy with it. Its a folding one which is helpful. I do not like having to double fist the bar while lowering the crane. Finess is not something these chinese products understand.

Re: engine hoist

Mine's from Northern Tool. $199. I went the little extra money for the 2 ton capacity. Works great.
Torin Big Red 2-Ton Foldable Engine Hoist w/Free Load Leveler
Heavy-duty folding engine hoist has a lifting range from 1in. to 93 3/4 in. Features a 4-hole position boom, heavy-duty 8-ton long ram, 6 wheels for added mobility and foldable design for easy storage. Includes 1500-lb. capacity engine leveler.
I thought for an extra 60 bucks and double the weight capacity, it was worth it.
