Re: Gas mileage...????

Between 17-18 city and 21-22 highway. I've made a few changes recently. If I can get 18+ in the city, I'll be happy.

Re: Gas mileage...????

I get about 22-25 mixed city hwy, lowest ever was 20, highest was 28, so alot of it depends on how I drive her. For reference my truck is a 2wd 2.2 5 speed, extended cab with 4.10 rear and 235-75-R15's

Re: Gas mileage...????

With the 92 4dr 4wd 4.3L CPI Auto - 21-23mpg
With the 00 BlaZeR2 (also auto) - 18-20mpg

That is considering my normal commute - 90% highway.

Re: Gas mileage...????

LOL. I didn't include my V8 powered S10... but considering it turns 37s and has a 3 speed auto with full time 4wd - 5mpg going downhill with a stiff wind.

Re: Gas mileage...????

I haven't had mine running enough to get through a full tank of gas, so no idea yet. The previous owner said he got around 15mpg driving it a max of 5 miles at a time.

Re: Gas mileage...????

I've been averaging around 15mpg in my '88 Blazer. That's with a warmed up 305, 700R4, 3:42 gear, keeping my foot out of it. It will do 19 on the highway.

Re: Gas mileage...????

Well, after FINALLY getting it running long enough to go through a tank, my little 4.3 CMFI Vortec is getting a whopping 10mpg.

I think most of this is due to it not idling right and I sit out in the Blazer during breaks and lunch. So for every 20 miles it travels, it does 90 minutes of idling. I'm going to try running this tank without idling during breaks to see what I get.

Re: Gas mileage...????

Ya, somethings wrong there. I put a lower end in my neighbor's Blazer. 4.3 CPI 4 door 4x4 with 165,000 miles and he gets 20-23 average mixed driving.

Re: Gas mileage...????

Well, with only idling it for 30 minutes a day, I kicked it up to 13.8mpg. I think since I've got a couple days off here I'm going to pull apart the intake and recheck all the gaskets and vacuum hoses. I think I've got a fairly substantial leak somewhere as it surges at idle and I can feel it pulling on and off at 60.

If possible use a vacuum gauge to help chase it down.

Re: Gas mileage...????

My next modification is to flash the memory. This place http://www.wait4meperformance.com/ offeres a great value from what I've been reading. You can send your own PCM or they'll send you a new one. Due to technical issues, I'm sending my PCM. I have my other truck to drive in the mean time.

Re: Gas mileage...????

20.5 at 80 MPH!! PCM reprogrammed!!
I took a round trip to El Paso. 1200+ miles. At 80 MPH, the Jimmy pulled 20.5 miles per gallon. Wow!! I wonder what it will do at 70! A little slower and it goes up. I 'm running 255/60R17 (29") tires. The 4.3 had no problem turning the large tires. The extra power and fuel map sure does help.

Now, I'll be running in the city. As soon as I can go through a full city tank, I'll post milage.

Re: Gas mileage...????

With a good tune up the wifes 97 4door blazer, 4x4, 4wd gets 17.5 mpg (city).. right now with a bad 02 sensor its getting 15mpg. Not sure on the highway but plan on taking it on a road trip in Mid July so we will see.. I am ready to get rid of this thing though. My 91 Jeep Cherokee 2 door, 4wd, 4.0 ltr inline 6, with 5 speed gets 20 mpg (city). Not sure on the highway, and I dont even use 5th gear. Looking for an Auto 4door 4wd Cherokee for my wife, 20 mpg isnt the best obviously, but it is better than 15-17 and I have had too many problems with the blazer.

This is due to the extra emission equipment that was mandated on 1998 and later vehicles. The more equipment they add, the lower the mileage. Only now with 2008 and later models are they finding ways to increase gas mileage again.
