Re: 68 project

Not to sharpshoot you but it doesn't look level against the bed side there. Once you level it off and tuck it in there it should look fine. I'm wondering what to paint mine, the front bumper is chrome. I was thinking of combining the paint colors into the bumper and use Van Halen's guitar style. Probably too weird. I like your military theme, reminds me of the old Willys jeep.

Re: 68 project

I always hated the wrap arounds a lot of those bumpers had.

Chop the ends off (It even looks like there was a line where they were added??) and its actually a pretty nice/clean looking bumper.

Re: 68 project

I am sure it is not level as the jack is the only thing holding it up there right now.

I have mixed feelings on the wrap around, there is a separation there where you marked the red cutline. I was originally going to use a sport bumper but the more I looked at this and the thoughts of my theme it just seemed to fit, plus it is different and I like to be set apart

Re: 68 project

OMG, I had one on my truck back in my Clemson days... I had a small triangle shaped Clemson flag on the top. Don't ever talk **** to truckers on I-85... they can dish it out, but they can't take a joke... My top bed rail still has the big 1/2" hole I had to drill for it.

Re: 68 project

Well not much progress today, sand blasted for about 5 minutes and the motor went out on the air compressor So tomorrow I will be working on the air compressor rather than the truck

Re: 68 project

I like the bumper. Trim the ends and fix it up a bit. I am not a step bumper person but a little work on the bumper should be nice.

I agree, thats a good looking step bumper without those add on wrap arounds. Perhaps I like it so much because it's the same bumper on my truck. I tucked mine up an additional 2" from the stock location and am really happy with it. I was originally going to swap to a sport bumper but I like the practicality and relative simplicity of this particular step bumper design.

Re: 68 project

I might be getting old, but I guess I'm not "wearing out" too fast, people give me odd looks when I tell them I've owned my truck for over 20 years (bought it a couple months before my 16th birthday in 1996).

Haha. I too thought I was indestructible but then stuff started hurting the last year or two and I'm only 33! I guess they don't make 'em like they used too.

Dr. Hewitt, read your whole post. I may try the same route you are going, you can still find some nice long beds and decent prices. My granddaughter lives in Winston Salem, I'm there quite often watching her play sports.

My neighbor has had more parts replaced than most cars on the road. Both knees, hips and elbows. Bionic man he is. Lol

Re: 68 project

So the rear brake system is coming in today, but instead of the work I was planning to do on my truck some of that time will be replacing the motor on the compressor, 646.00 for a new motor !!!
