NOS stuff

I have found a few NOS correct number parts for my suburban.
Is there anything to look out for when using NOS parts? I am aware a NOS carb would probably need at least new gaskets, but would something like a water pump, distibutor need new seals? or maybe new bearings? What about things like gaskets , weatherstripping? would anything rubber or plastic still be in usable condition?

I like my truck the way GM made it and am trying to keep it "original style", i am not that concerned about correct numbers, original style works for me and my budget. But if a NOS part is not much more then a repo, why not get it?

Re: NOS stuff

I would by NOS any day. Course it would depend on the condition the NOS parts are in. Stored out of the sun, they should be fine. Keep the original NOS packaging as well for insurance purposes.

Re: NOS stuff

Thanks for the input.
i think i will go for a NOS distributor, but am not so sure about a water pump.

The storage does seem to make a difference, I just bought 2 nos mirror heads, one was listed as having some shelf and storage wear, the second was listed from a climate controlled warehouse. the first mirror box was beat to death and the rubber gasket on the mirror is not very pliable. the second mirror box is pristine and the rubber is soft.
