Oldest pictures you have of your truck

I found a bunch of old pictures the other night in the wife’s scrapbooking stash.

My Dad’s ’78 K20 in front of our Exxon station when the truck was about a month old and before the slide in wrecker unit was installed. Yes, that is me and our dog. Picture from 1978. We still have the truck although it is in very rough shape.

Oldest picture I can find of my ’68 GMC. Picture from 1987 behind dad’s shop.

Some of the oldest pictures I can find of my ’78 K10 from 1996 just after the lift and ¾ axles were installed.

Right after college graduation in the spring of 1997 when I arrived in Detroit. The big building in the back ground is the GM World Headquarters. My cube was in the tower closest to the river on the left side. Floor 10. The picture was actually taken in Winsor, ON, Canada.

Here`s my`90 Blazer when it was new. It`s a Silverado 350 4spd vinyl interior model with manual lock outs in Fire Red.Not many like this, either.I sold it last year to a board member:

Here`s the`84 Silverado I had before the`92.It`s a Camper Special 6.2 TH400 w/gear vendors 4.10 Detroit Locker/Tru-Trac Banks Sidewinder.I bought it used in stock condition in`86:

Here`s the`78 Silverado I had w/454 TH400 loaded.I bought it used in`82 and only had it a couple years. It had a blow head gasket and cracked head.I built the 454 to haul a little more a..pples:

Here`s a longbed K/10 I had, bought in`88.It was a`72 Custom Deluxe Highlander 350/TH350 hooks posi.I had it about a year and sold to get a`71 Custom Deluxe Suburban 402/TH400 a/c 8" rallyes.A real clean`burb in the same blue with blue interior.I never even took a picture:

The only picture I took of this`72 shortbed Custom Deluxe I bought in`89 from an old guy and restored. It was a 292 4spd posi 4.10 am/fm dual battery and factory 16.5 x 8.25s.The guy bought it to plow snow on his property

Here`s the`78 C/30 Scottsdale when I bought it in`85.It`s a 454 4spd Camper Special woodfloor truck.I ran it a couple years and decided I couldn`t do w/o 4wd.I mounted ladder racks and side boxes painted to match:

Re: Oldest pictures you have of your truck

You guys are bustin`my gut!

Hey Papa, I bought my GMC out of Modesto, CA and had it shipped to Indianapolis for 1/2 of the cost of shipping to Maryland. It cost $150 to fly out and I drove it from there. What was that cost? Doesn`t count cuz it was an adventure. I wanted to run it all the way but was to busy at that time. I flew out on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and got back Saturday evening without a hitch. Spent my first night owning it sleeping in it in Zanesville, OH at a truck stop.
Vectorit... That picture sure is old! (just toyin' with ya)

Re: Oldest pictures you have of your truck

Man, if there was any kind of dream trip I could take it would be time travel. Go back in time with a sack full of money buy a bunker and start filling it up with class vehicles to re-retrieve in 2010.

A nice collection of cool old pictures here.

Vectorit, that is great you still have your dad’s Suburban!

Found this one of my dad’s 78 K20 before it became a wrecker from about 1978 or 9. That is his friends 1976 K10 behind.

Here is a crazy picture of me from when I was about 16 rolling an Impala over behind the shop in about 1987 or 8. Why was I doing that? I don’t remember but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Practice I guess.

A very crappy picture of a FedEx Ford Econoline I rescued up in the mountains in about 1995 or 6. The van was way over in the ditch by those trees so I slid it out on the road then ran a snatch block to a tree to roll it back on its wheels. I remember being pissed when the right rear tire blew off the bead as it rolled back over. Wish we had digital cameras back then.

Re: Oldest pictures you have of your truck

I`m enjoying your pictures,Larry.I have the same time travel dream.

Yeah, slept in trucks more than once for various reasons. Then there were times like the song that says,
"I got a gal she`s 6 foot four,Lays on the seat with her feet out the door.
My gal is red hot,
Your gal ain`t doodely squat."

(I think it said something besides "seat")

Re: Oldest pictures you have of your truck

Here are a few that will make you want to cry. Some jackass stole my dad’s 1948 from the gas station one night then took it out in the boonies and made off with the magnesium slot wheels then set it on fire. I am guess this was in 1977 as my brothers new '77 K10 is in the picture. The pictures where the day dad hauled it off….to the junk yard I presume. The old tow truck is a 1948 Ford. The only Ford this family has ever owned too. It actually came with the gas station when dad bought it in 1974.

Now this one here is another sad story. My oldest brother got rear ended by some old drunk driving a big ole 70’s Cadillac up in Colorado Springs. My brother was lucky to walk away from this one. I am guessing this was around 1976 or so.

Re: Oldest pictures you have of your truck

A few more from the Exxon station days.

My oldest brothers new ’77 K10 and my dad’s buddies 76’s K10.

The gas station service truck that dad traded in on our ’78 K20. This truck was probably a ’76 or ’75. Dad says it was a big block truck. Check out the groovy side pipes!

Another of the good ole trusty ’78 K20 wrecker. Picture was probably taken around 1979 or 80. Dad always ran 9.00 x 16 tube type Gateway tires on it. Pretty much a tall skinny commercial version of Gumbo Mudders.

Check out the price of gas. .59.9 cents! And that was outrageous at the time.

I would like to go back to those days for week just to stop and smell the roses again. I was too young to remember it all.

Re: Oldest pictures you have of your truck

Haven't really had my truck long enough (<2years) to have any old pic's with it, but just wanted to say keep em coming! Plus, you don't want to see pics of me with my first truck. Let's just say it had a dirty little four letter word on the grill that started with an F. Yeah, I dabbled into Furds fer a while. Plus, in the pic I have hair, and thats just depressing.

Tim and Larry, you guys have had some nice old rides over the years!
