My 97 FWD Silverado with the 5.7 just threw a P0161 code for the bank 2 sensor 2 o2 sensor. What brand replacement is recommended?

Thanks

Re: 97 o2 sensor

I try to go with OEM sensor as much as I can. ACDelco.

Looks like it would be AFS106

Do a little experiment first

Before you possibly waste time replacing something that might not be bad. Always swap left and right sensors and see if the problem chases the sensor.

Many sensor failures are from various wiring issues like mating connectors or actual wiring.

Thanks Speedy. Sage advise as usual. Also as usual the problem ie the check engine light went off after a couple of days.

Re: 97 o2 sensor

It will come back. Occasionally

Since New Jersey no longer tests tail pipe emissions, you should have the rear downstream O2s programmed out. But you can't have any DTC's.

The after cat (rear or downstream) O2s are only to monitor the health of the cat. So you don't throw a code, you can have companies like PCMforless program out the function of the rear O2.

Here in VA they only do a sniffer test in the area surrounding DC. I don't live in that area so when my cats got destroyed, I gutted them and then had the rear O2s removed from programming.
