Can you confirm a big block by VIN with no spid?

Is it possible to tell if a truck is an original big block without the spid?

Re: Can you confirm a big block by VIN with no spid?

Lots of things under the hood...

4 row radiator and hold downs
remote power steering reservoir
exhaust heat shield on lower passenger side of cab

And in the cab...
Bolt in high hump (tranny cover)

And on the frame....
Duel exhaust hangers

Someone will chime in with more I'm sure.

Re: Can you confirm a big block by VIN with no spid?

The only thing I can confirm at the moment is a high hump. It is a 69 SWB and apparently the PO tried to turn it into a fake super Cheyenne and changed out the glove box door, door panels, etc. The truck is SWB and as you know the value would be much higher if you can prove the truck is a factory big block without the SPID.

Not by the engine code in the VIN.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=570059

The engine code merely distinguishes between V8 vs 6 cylinder.

Edit: unless it has a 6 cylinder VIN - that would certainly prove it is not a big block.

Re: Can you confirm a big block by VIN with no spid?

I just went back and looked at the pics and it the alternator is on the passenger side so I doubt it is a factory SWB truck even with the high hump. I didn't see that picture the first time.

It is a truck on craigslist. I didn't notice the engine pic at first.

Are you looking specifically for a cheyenne or cheyenne super? How much are you looking to spend? There are a few in the ark-la-tex area. I used searchtempest.com and found a few.

The weight can tell you on vin tag. Can't remember off top of my head but it is different.

Re: Can you confirm a big block by VIN with no spid?

If you find a emissions sticker that reads 402 on the LH inner fender, engine compartment, odds are high it's original. The BBs have a stamped number on them, which you can find through this website. I had thought the VIN stated as well, but it's been a lot of years since I checked.

Like the previous poster said, the weight is different too. You can find that info. on this website as well.

Re: Can you confirm a big block by VIN with no spid?

It does not appear that it can be proven to be an original BB SWB truck without the spid or build sheet so I am going to pass on it. I am not in the market for one but was interested in this one for the price listed if it could be proven to be an original BB SWB truck.
