Need steering help

As the title implies i need a lot of help, im new here so bear with me. Yesterday i tore the steering column apart to replace the turn signal mechanism, after all was said and done the steering wheel was sideways. Being the vehicle noob that i am i thought tearing it apart again would allow me to fix that. Well it didn't. Now i dont know how it happened but after i get the locking plate off its almost like the steering shaft slid back. Now i have about an inch of foreward/backward movement and a-lot of play at the steering wheel end. I'll post some pics at the firewall from the engine side. I have no money for a mechanic to fix my problem and have no idea what do do to fix it. The internet hasn't helped much at all. (Pics may be sideways sorry)
