65 Old School Build on a Budget

Well, Just want to start off by thanking Alan's Classics for sending me to this AWESOME forum. It was great to meet both Alan's Classics and Sdailey (Thanks for the trade) helping me get started. Many nights have been consumed with reading thread after thread, getting me more and more excited with all the inspiration and cool trucks..

Since I have read all your threads I thought I would start one myself. I have to apologize a head of time for I am both a computer and restoration novice. My gaol when purchasing my 1965 C-10 a few weeks back was to get it running, then stoipping .. then on to the road and drive it everywhere and fix what broke along the way (budget budget budget)... Dream for the spring is a earth shaking motor to make up for what I lack in Bodywork... Hope the pictures work, if not I'll keep giving it a go.

picture one is the truck sitting in the previous owner back yard, 2.. the day it came home, 3.. one week later...

Re: 65 Old School Build on a Budget

Well, seemed to work.......... Up to date as of today...

All lights and minor detailed worked out and am driving 3-4 times a week... To do list growing! Thanks to Alan's Classics, gave me a set of 4x4 ralleys. Thanks.. Painted and installed some new Radial TA 255 70r 15, rides 100% better than the bald ones.. Next thing to work out are replace the collapsed springs, thinking 2" up front and 4" in the rear? Don't want it to low, just a little meaner looking. Replace upper and lower control are bushings, and address the left front brake doing all the work...

What kind of wheels are those in the 3rd pic you posted with the caps? I'm in the works of buying a '65 fleetside too and like the look.

Those are 80's GM Truck Rally wheels. You can find them in 5 and 6 lug.

The truck looks good. Keep up the good work. I need to get cracking on mine also. The month of January looks pretty good for now.

Re: 65 Old School Build on a Budget

Actually its rolled Rustoleum flat black, Yes rolled with a foam brush... Tried the flat black rattle and just wasn't doing it for me. Rolled oil based Flat, gives it a good sheen, from the picture the driver side door had some roller marks but I have since redone the door and am very happy with it. (For now! good 25 dollar fix)

94TX those are actually just hub caps off a bare bones S-10 or Astro van that my buddy had laying around on 7 inch steel wheels (I think)

Smile Re: 65 Old School Build on a Budget

Rosewell, Roswell, tomatoe, tomato I'm near Upper Roswell and Old Canton, I'll keep an eye out for you..

Little update.. Found a set of jeep coil springs for 10$ from a local four wheel drive shop/collector. (the ones on the right) The old retainers came out pretty easy (broke) and found that I only had one bottom retainer... After reinstalling the jeep coils I ended with about a four inche drop, I do have a steel plate for a bed which must have added a little drop due to the weight..Being that it was getting dark before I was finished I only have the top retainers in(the driver side coil is not sitting correct, so its making it a little lower on that side, sorry only picture I have for now) Now to figure out what shocks to use (budget) any Idea of cross reference? cheap!! and then its up front... ( For those considering the Jeep coils, I think (1 hour into it!) that its a good fix to buy you some time till you get the real deals (very soft) I have my eye on the complete lowering kit with sway bars, just need to sell a motorcycle.. Anyone interested in a KZ1000? Here are some picture...
