Switching from step to fleet bed question

Hello,
I'm leisurely searching for a truck to build. What if I find a good candidate but it's a step side ( I'd like a fleetside)? Is it easy to swap? I assume so but thought I'd ask.
The problem would be finding a clean donor bed I imagine. Are all 60-66 fleet beds the same, other than reverse lamps?

The bed crossmembers are slightly different between 60-62 and 63-66. You'll need a complete bed to swap over since the crossmembers are longer for the fleetside beds

Or you can buy new bed sides.

Yes, full new sheetmetal is not really expensive (in the big picture of a build). Sides, front, tubs, rear cross sill, gate. Of course, if you can get a used bed that's nice, go for it.

Some folks find the steps more appealing than fleetside, so you might be able to find someone who would swap you. I would have considered it myself back before I redid my bed wood. Also one of my side panels and the tailgate are messed up so you probably wouldn't want, anyway.

And can't say enough good things about the quality of Mar=K stuff, if you need panels, gate, or bed kits.

I don’t think mar-k sells the Fleetside bedsides yet but I think they have everything else you will need.
