Not the Rustoleum enamel, but Rustoleum rattlecan. It's a work truck truck I needed to get all one color after I replaced the fenders.

Re: rustoleum paint jobs

11.00 a quart at walmart.. lots of color... nice gravity feed gun, thinned a little with mineral spirits..... nicely prepped truck (smooth/clean) and paint away...
i painted my 91's bed with WHITE and it looks better than the stock/factory paint..... it scratches easy but looks great...

never finished the custome body work the PO started.. i actually use my truck bed....

Re: rustoleum paint jobs

Hot Rod did a write up on this a few years ago.....July 2007-ish I think.

They painted an old Falcon with a roller and brush using 50/50 thinned paint and some elbow grease.

Re: rustoleum paint jobs

I painted the inside of my truck's bed with a paint from Lowes that is similar to Rustoleum but I can't remember the name right now. The good thing was they were able to tint it to almost perfectly match the original color. They don't tint Rustoleum.

I took them the radio delete plate that was the original color I was looking for so they could match it.

Re: rustoleum paint jobs

I painted mine with Rust-O-Leum over a year ago and it has held up great. I thinned it with mineral spirits and added an 8 oz. can of Valspar hardener to the gallon of paint. The hardener really makes the paint hold up against chipping and also helps the paint dry faster. Thin the paint at a 4 to 1 ratio and it will flow smooth.

I believe that's what it was. The reason I got that brand was because it said on the can that it was tintable. The guy that matched did a super job. It was identical to the original color. Problem is I can't find the d#$% can...

Paint job looks nice. And I agree with what he says. Why let a truck rust because you can't afford a $3K to $5K paint job. That is why I painted the inside of the bed. It was starting to rust and I knew someday I'd have to sand or media blast the whole bed and cab.

Too many time I've seen these trucks sit out in the weather just rusting to the point of not being able to fix them up anymore. If a quick rustoleum or other type of paint job prevents them from falling apart until a person can afford a professional job, I say go for it...
