What does "the gross vehicle weight and front-end vehicle must be the same" mean??? Can an original 1/2-ton 402-powered '72 truck be identified solely by the fact that rear end gross weight must either be 3,220 or 3,500?

The reason the maximum and front end gross weights are the same is due to the HD suspension and tires. You could order a 350-powered truck and get those weights. Therefore, a big-block 1/2-ton MUST have those weights, but a small block truck COULD have them. Small block trucks with these weights are very unusual (especially SWB trucks). The VAST majority of faked big-block truck builders either don't know this or they assume a future buyer will not know it. I'll bet the Ebay truck doesn't have the dual-exhaust brackets or the high-hump. Great looking truck but not an authentic truck as advertised!!!

After I read your first post about the door jamb plate I called the seller and asked him to send me a pic of it and then I guess it must have posted it on the ad as well. I just learned something else about authenticating theses trucks so thanks for the tip. I still think this will a great driver for someone.

Re: eBay Cheyenne Super -- Another Fake SPID

I become somewhere between annoyed and pissed when people pass-off a fake vehicle as an authentic. I sent the seller the following message;

Jeff, I'm not being an idiot, but the engine in that truck is NOT original. The gross weights shown in the VIN tag photo are consistent only with a small V-8 (307 or 350). The 402-powered 1/2 ton trucks all had higher gross weights. An unsuspecting buyer that learns this in the future may be very unhappy and may be able to file a claim through Ebay. If you have questions, you are welcome to call me at 260-437-0452. Dan

I agree and went ahead and reported it to ebay as misrepresented because the listing says original 400 motor.

Having owned trucks of this caliber, I can only say that he should be lifting his reserve with bids like he has. That is GOOD money for that truck. X2 on the shill bidding. Very nice truck though.

Super nice truck, sad they misrepresent it.

That's why I left my SPID original so my kids or grand kids can know it's original state.

A dealer is selling it, and they wont lift the reserve.

Reserve not met. It might have ended early. The shill was probably high bidder.

Re: eBay Cheyenne Super -- Another Fake SPID

perhaps he read this thread and ran for the hills. It was a nice truck, but I do agree that I wish folks didn't throw around words like "original" when it's clearly not the case.

Re: eBay Cheyenne Super -- Another Fake SPID

It takes a lot to know if a truck is all original. If not for the combined knowledge of this website any one of us would be that guy listing a truck with a false claim (to those who know). You can get big money for an LSX powered shortbed with all kinds of modern stuff that never came on it, yet one done tastefully enough to appear as a factory built dream truck gets scrutinized over one detail. No, it's not a factory BBC Cheyenne Super SWB, but it's a damn nice truck and worth the range it seems to be in. A real one that nice would always be worth more. Just know what you're looking at and decide if you like it enough to pay the money. If you're an investor, please find another place to go
