Ok, so the half ton is right at 8". The caps I want to run are ~8 1/4". Might have to make some relief cuts are re-tack the "retaining ring."

Mike, That should work. I have done a similar trick with beauty rings that will not fit on 9.75 x 16.5 wheels. I also used those little neodyminium magnets to keep them in place!
