That's the great thing. You're not forced to buy the whole enchilada if you only want the beans!

Well, that might be optimistic. I received the 'first' kit..... and the 1st kit doesn't have instructions 'cause I'll be helping create those instructions . I would like to make it through the spindle mods (if it's fairly obvious) for sure but I only have about 10hrs of working light to get things done.

We'll see.

I didn't get to the spindles or brakes this weekend. Maybe if I get an opportunity during the week I'll get some pics (it's dark when I leave for work & dark when I get home).

Re: How Much Interest: 13" Big Brake Upgrade

I figure I need to make my truck stop as well as it goes...with an LS1 under hood, I figure the brakes from a LS1 would be a nice start

Here's to hoping this can be done easily on the cheap, and also hoping that it's compatible with the Early Classic drop spindles I'm running!

Just thought of something. You mention C5/C6 brakes - which ones? The C6 Z51, for example, gets the bigger cross-drilled rotors and I think it gets different calipers / pads too. Would those be an option? If that's the case I'll need to convince my dad that the brakes on his C6 are clearly inadequate now that the ZR1 has carbon rotors, hah.

The choice is yours (or your checkbooks ).

I chose C5 Z51 optioned caliper/rotors (325mm/13.4" rotors; dual 40mm piston calipers). I also got rotors from DBA vs. GM (the DBA's are better quality). Also optional is the cross-drilling if that's your thing. I wanted big, solid rotors vs. the Baer brakes cross-drilled look.

I got them for $800 less than the 13" GT-Plus Baer kit I was looking @ & the Baer kit only comes one way (cross-drilled).

Re: How Much Interest: 13" Big Brake Upgrade

I've finished up modifying a LH stock spindle & will be doing the RH stock spindle today when I'm done @ work.

Hopefully I'll get to start on the dropped spindles tomorrow (it gets easier once you figure everyhting out). My plan is to have an assistant take some pics as I modify everything so you get an idea of what happens.

Re: How Much Interest: 13" Big Brake Upgrade

Hey everybody I already have a big brake kit. Floating rotors 5 or 6 lug I'm working on 8 Lug now. I have one that is a factory caliper and another one that is a nice billet piece 4 or 6 piston. I started this before I went and did TV so it's been on the back shelf for a couple of years I just need to get it up and going.

Scoti,
I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention, the wife keeps reminding me of things (chores I haven't done).
Are you using the C6 Z06 calipers, the 6 Pots up front with the 4 pots out back? If so what wheels have you found that fit over them?

Thats the route i'd like to go.

No, the Z06 stuff is overkill for my application. I'm using C5/6 Z51 w/2-piston (40mm) PBR floating calipers w/13.4" (325mm) rotors. Haven't made it to the rears..... yet . . ....

too much brakes is like having too much horsepower which is like having too much fun...but then again there is something costing too much money...
what wheels are you running anyways??

Yes cost is a BIG factor. 'Too much' is also like a truck that runs a cowl-induction hood scoop that's bonded to an un-cut stock hood. Just because it fits doesn't mean you'll reap the benefits.

I have some 20" Coy C5's somewhere between here & there. They were supposed to arrive by Friday but all I got was some lugnuts & a t-shirt.

i don't believe he has tested on any aftermarket spindles yet.....don't mean to speak for ya, but i think he is just installing the kit on his truck with stock spindles right now.

Re: How Much Interest: 13" Big Brake Upgrade

Stock spindles..... no problem.
Western Chassis 2.5" drop spindles..... easier than the stockers.

Bell Tech 3" spindles are next in line. I would venture to say that if stock calipers will swap to the spindles, these brakes should as well.

I've been working on these @ work (after hours) so it's dark when I'm getting home. I will have some pics up by this weekend & will try to show how much material needs to be removed from the spindles.
