The distance from the center of the rear axle to the rear of the bed is the same on a Longhorn as on a 127" LWB truck.

^ nice!

guess the ochre needs some fresh pics up here with new bed..

red one got bed kit ordered today, big sale at Mar-K

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=794813

since all longhorns have wood beds, thought this would be useful here..

Here's our Longhorn. Well Sierra Grande GMC. A work in progress. Already has a rebuilt motor and transmission. Now the rest. But it's original paint and interior. Hate to mess that up. But lots of dings and dents.

Nice Longhorn with a unique paint combo for a Longhorn The body looks great to me and I'd get the truck mechanically sound and put in a new box floor if needed and enjoy the hell out of her.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Here is my 70. I bought it wrecked and had the 71/72 grill and bumper from a truck i parted out. I kinda like it over the earlier grill anyway and over the years my family has had a half dozen or so 72’s and one 71. It has a 400/400 and dana rear axle, 4.10s as far as I can tell, as I added a factory style tach and it turns rpms similar to the 72 stepside i had with same diameter tires and 4.10s.

this afternoon I managed to overlay them to get as complete a picture as I can without damaging them..

so first question, anyone know if the original tire size listed as 750X16X8 on build sheet were 16"?

there is no tire size listed on the SPID of this truck so not sure if there was a standard size that wouldn't be listed?

I've seen 16.5 expressed 165 in SPIDs, not sure about build sheets..

for instance, the other 71 longhorn SPID calls 950X165X8 which I assumed were 16.5"

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

I never showed this truly rare bird that sat in my area for three decades, I knew about it, I asked about it until I gave up years ago, and never realized it was a Napco Longhorn until someone else managed to buy it in the last year and flip it. It was just a green with moss '70 K/20 to me since I only walked past it to knock on the door and get turned away. Strangest truck experience I've ever had.

I wonder what's up with the rear axle. It looks forward in the opening to me.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Ok, I'm not trying to start ww3,but I have some 8mm film of my dad's 72 c20, it had longhorn badges and camper special on it. The bed did not have the front add on, and the rear tires were a little over a foot from the end of the bed. I have tried to google this, there are plenty of pics of fords with this axle position, but no luck on chevy, I wish I could post a pic for proof. It was parked beside his LWB 72 and it was the same length truck. I wish I had more solid information, someone out there has got to have seen one. I'm on this forum because I value anyone's input. He bought it in 74, dark green, BB auto 2wd.

It sounds like a Longhorn chassis with an 8' bed, with the wheel openings moved back. Now, how those wheel openings got moved back, I have no idea.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

^ no battle here, love to hear more about it..

there are archive services out there that can convert old media into modern data files..

might be able to find one in your area that can convert your 8mm into a digital format..

post some pictures from that and maybe someone here could solve the mystery..

short of the obvious possible explanations such as previous owner adding the factory badges, may have been a dealer specific edition or something..

there aren't any other tells of a longhorn other than 133" wb and base model # on the spid so difficult to say what happened there..

and not all true factory longhorns had the badges, I have one of each, and I suppose anyone could add them to any truck..

did it have a wood or steel bed floor?

here's a few comments about my ochre longhorn that Joesjunk discovered..

http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...8&postcount=31

not sure how it wound up like that but it's all factory as far as everyone that's seen it can tell.. and they weren't rookies other than me

love to see your dad's 72 if you can get some pictures from that tape..

good luck!

Steel floor, widebed. I'll check in to media conversion.if you don't mind google some pics of f150 fords, early 70's with the axle moved back, this is exactly how it was, but with a good looking body on it , Haha.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Interesting stuff about your "Super" Killer.

I have always assumed GMC didn't use the "Longhorn" emblems because they put the "Sierra" and "Sierra Grande" there.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

oh, that's right Larry, GMC had their badges back there..

I've actually seen a couple around here and didn't realize that, I just look for the bed extension..

I drive by this blue one on the route to my dentist in huntington beach..

spotted it enough times to prepare to stop for a pic without getting rear ended..

people behind me "what the hell's this idiot stopping for?"

heading there for cleaning next week, I'll be looking for it.. nice looking truck, little treat on the drive

the ochre longhorn 'super' (I'm gonna use that now, why not LoL) is badged but the customer ordered red one isn't, who knows why..

ordered my wood kit for it.. group consensus is epoxy/varnish like the other one..

mine was the only vote for red paint oh well, better get to work!

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

got my grill cleaned this morning and there she was in the same spot

also noticed for the first time that I was driving right past classic industries only a block away from that longhorn..

stopped in to say hello, nice showroom and giant warehouse barely 15 minutes from my house

Killer, did you do the other bed while you were in Missouri?

You are giving me a complex, but I have too many other projects started.

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

yes sir, out on the farm with a mix of dad's old tools and some disposable harbor freight stuff and 70+ yo mom's help.. couldn't have done it without her!

she brushed, I rolled, we flipped, rinse repeat

she was my qc inspector and supervisor.. she isn't tall so she held the bolt heads down with a broom handle

planning to put my kids to work on this one.. taking week of thanksgiving off work to get it done..

needs wheel tubs and headboard or minor repairs at least so I'm trying to get motivated..

really was looking forward to painting this one but unanimously out voted by everyone..

that epoxy and varnish is tough stuff so gonna try not to be shy of using it like it was meant to be

if I had more time I'd knock it out for you, maybe when I'm retired.. I figure I'll make it about 6 mos before my new found time eats up my funds
