blazer tailgate top

Has anyone ran into an issue with the aftermarket tailgate to hardtop strip on the inside of the tailgate not fitting and not looking like the original. I feel this aftermarket part they are selling is wrong. Can someone please attach a picture of a factory one so I can fix this issue. The green one is a part I took off a tailgate. Is there a single wall vs double wall tailgate strip?

Re: blazer tailgate top

here is an view of the tailgate strip on my 1972 jimmy. I'm pretty sure its original to the truck. The truck does have a double wall top if that matters?

Re: blazer tailgate top

The hatches between the double and single wall are the same which leads me to believe the tail gate strip is the same

Re: blazer tailgate top

Had pics on my computer of my strip before/after install - can get you more if needed. Single wall top. No difference between the strips for 1x vs. 2x wall tops that I'm aware of. I believe the screws used to affix the strips were the same type with captured washers used to attach the cowl to the cowl seal at the firewall. Pete

Re: blazer tailgate top

Mine looks just like 72 Jimmy's and it has a single wall top.

Re: blazer tailgate top

I am not able to comment on the reproductions parts fitting or not but I do know there are two different styles from the factory, one like your green one and the other ones pictured, I do not know any rhyme or reasoning to the different styles used from single wall to double wall tops or year differences.

Re: blazer tailgate top

Seems odd that two styles would be used as the hatches and tailgates are the same 2x vs. 1x wall top. This isn't saying much but I've only ever seen one style.

Re: blazer tailgate top

LIVRAT is correct, their are two factory styles. I have one of each. I always thought that the '69/70 used a different style from the '71/72.

Re: blazer tailgate top

I have both styles also, thought the one off my 70 had been cut. The others I have we're from 72.

Re: blazer tailgate top

The 1970 is double wall, where the "wing" is on the 72 style , it folds over to form 2nd layer. The 70 is shorter because it does not have the full length "wing"

Re: blazer tailgate top

Resurrecting this old thread (sorry)

I went to install my tailgate strip and found that only two of my screw holes lined up (the outer most holes on each end).

Here's pics of how it looks:

Can anyone post pics of their strips? I wonder if it should have a slight curve to it to get the holes to align? My strip seems to have the holes offset slightly, and not in a straight line. Unsure what's correct...

Thanks all!

Re: blazer tailgate top

I think the repop has the holes put in a new place if your old holes are bad

It's the original strip to my tailgate which is why this seems weird the holes don't align...

Can anyone else get pics of their holes for comparison. I'm fine with drilling new holes if thats what I need to do but just thought i'd check first.
