Throttle Linkage Binding…72 C10

Just picked up this work/project truck. I need it to run while I work on it. The throttle is very sticky from the peddle, but easy from the carburetor side. It has a huge bend in it from the firewall to the throttle bracket. Can I shorten it somehow? Is this the wrong linkage? The rubber sleeve ends (between firewall and bracket) seem to be molded and I can't figure out how to shorten the section…Thanks for any advice…

I got a photobucket account and uploaded all my pics there. From there you can upload them here. Just remember though, if you delete or move them on photobucket they will no longer show up here.

These cables are know for fraying and cutting into the outer jacket. I suspect that its strecthed from seeing the spacers in the carb side of the cable. For the price of a cable its worth replacing. I had one break on the highway I had to pull over and idle it way up just to get home.
