Will a 205 hold up?

Just thinking about a possible future project, and I don't have any of the parts. But I am thinking about doing a k40, or k50 build (67-72 vintage) possibly (probably) a crew cab. My question is if I went duramax and either a zf6 or an allison, if I found a way to mate a 205 would it hold up? I would like it to remain passenger side drop and use as many Chevy parts as possible. Also would an nv4500 be a transmission option? Just thinking about this and am open to any ideas or advice.
