Re: bagged burb project..

Hey, how are the tubs come-in. Are you going to move the wiring harness.

Re: bagged burb project..

well, the template is pretty well done. I just need to cut the metal and test fit the real deal (moment of truth). I've been working on the passenger side since it has less stuff in the way, so i'm not 100% on the wiring. I'm hoping with the curve of the tubs i can lay most of the wiring on top of the new inners. There is a big plug in the firewall on the driver's side that will be inside the tub. I think i will make up a fiberglass box to cover it from the elements rather than move it.

Re: bagged burb project..

Well, i might need my rounded tubs for the rear burb after all. previous builder moved the stock tubs up, but that have too angle in them and when layed out the truck sits on the tires.

i need to weld up some other misc. holes in the rear and work on getting is seam sealed (properly), so when i drop the tank i'll work removing the old tubs and decide for sure.

I think i'm going to use flat stock for the tubs up front. flat piece a couple inches from the fender rail, then angled to meet the frame. something like this:

Re: bagged burb project..

The flat tubs are a good idea. They give you a clean look.

clean is the name of game when it comes to this truck..simple yet irresistibly custom

I got my dakota digital digital airride controller Friday...install looks pretty simple, but i'm waiting on my new tanks and airline to redo the whole system. probably not necessary, but this way i know how it's done and it's fresh. i tend to have luck finding other people's half-ass custom work, so i'd like to be sure.

the new setup will consist of two slim 5gal tanks and relocating the valves, so i can hide everything under a fake floor behind the floor notch (8" tall). i'm hoping to get the 3rd row back in burb (original floor was reused in the notch so it mounts up, but sits too high). i need to check the clearance between notch and floor, i hope there's room or i can drop some of the notch..we'll see.

i'll get some pics of progress since i have the day off tomorrow

Re: bagged burb project..

got some pieces of rear removed...looks like i can lower floor over the notch about 4 inches if i move my crossbar down. currently the bar is 2x2 square tubing the houses my shocks and bags. if i put my kp kit on this burb then i wouldn't need them there, so i could move the bar down easily.

Pic 1: rear looking from back seat (2 covers provide access to rear bags)
Pic 2: front of the notch cover off looking into the driver's side
Pic 3: pass side..
Pic 4: driver's again...

Re: bagged burb project..

o yea..almost forgot DAKOTA DIGITAL - DIGITAL AIR RIDE CONTROLLER!!

got it for decent price and it comes with:
4 - 150psi sensors (each bag)
1 - 400psi sensor (tank)
1 - control unit (unique plugs for each)
1 - digital readout with controls

Reading through the directions this unit has auto ride height, 3 presets, park/neutral deactivation (can't play when driving), speed control setting (1-15 settings to slow bigger valves and lines), and more...

I'm waiting for suicide doors to send me some new lines and tanks before hooking it up, but i'm still excited.

Re: bagged burb project..

Well, spent a few hours on the burb, but didn't get too far. Undoing other people's "customizing" is never fun...

I'm trying to cut the back out, so i can lower the floor and put some better/taller tubs...i've been using a cut-off wheel and it's just taking too long and it isn't very "clean". i'm hoping to bring the truck up to work this week and borrow the industrial tech's plasma cutter to get things removed, so i can start laying it out the rear.

I hope to make the center section removable (bolts w nuts welded to the underside) while the tubs will be welded fast to floor of the truck and seam sealed to the outside body..this is the current rear...

Re: bagged burb project..

hey everyone, sorry for the sudden stop in post and progress, but my wife and i had our first baby on Jluy 26th. Addison Rose has been a blessing in every facet expect i've been turning a lot more diapers than wrenches since she's been around. I wanted to post and let you guys know i'm still around and i'm hoping to make progress this winter. I also swapped my 02 tahoe for a 95 tahoe, so i have a matching shorty to go with my suburban. I'll make a new thread someday for "light" mods the hoe will see.

Living in ohio the tahoe will only be static dropped...snow is a big enough pain with a 2wd truck let alone a frozen airline or whatever other craziness could happen in the winter with a bagged vehicle. more power to those who do it...

Nice set of trucks.
I hope to have my truck bagged like that!
Did you ever tub it?
Going to tub mine sometime soon with trailer fenders.
Just wondering how you did yours?

Thanks, but I haven't tubbed it yet...the little one keeps me busy. I have new tubs for the rear and i'm planning to flat stock the front. trailer fenders should be pretty easy. I used to have like to someone else putting them together, ill try to find it and post.

Re: bagged burb project..

well, i wanted to say Merry Christmas to everyone and check in before everyone stops reading my thread

I haven't done much with burban besides a lil destruction. It seems a get further and further from the finish line, but at least that allows me to know whats under everything. Anyway, pulled the dash to moved it to my tahoe since I'll be using a grey interior from my parts truck. Dad and i also worked out a deal to move his 48 project out of his shop, so we can put the burban in its place. This will give me a place to have the truck up in the air all the time and actually tear into it without fear of it still being movable his Christmas present to me, i guess. Once that move happens it will take longer to do sheetmetal work (tubs front and rear) than it should to put the suspension parts on. Most everything has be installed/pre-fitted on my parts truck, so its just a matter of moving things.

I may have the metal work done else where to speed up the process as i have a march deadline, but who knows. I can't decide on paint for the outside, but i want it to be flat or semi-gloss....i'm leaning towards white w/gunmetal Coy's and some simple pinstripe details similar to old SS or yenko stripes (like the Muscle Truck done in Street Trucks ) color matched to the wheels instead of my original murdered out approach....any thoughts? To help visualize here's a tahoe with the Coys...it's body dropped which i won't have , but it will be close.

Re: bagged burb project..

I love the gunmetal coys. I also love the Street Trucks SS truck. I wish I had a fresh idea for muscle car stripes, but the only idea I could come up with was the faux woody look. I really like the retro theme, whatever form it takes.

Merry Christmas!

Re: bagged burb project..

deconstructing the blue burb to make way for the ART upper and lowers which were recleaned and painted this weekend. hopefully the old parts will be out mid week, so i can start cleaning up the frame a lil to put some rustoleum on it (nothing fancy). rethought the front tubs (again) i liked the HULK tubs (search the forum the dude is insane with sheet metal). Flat stock with simple rounded bends to cover things up. I hope to mock up and get the main pieces in over the next month and then really finish them up later...i'll get some pics later this week.

To do list is still pretty long, but i'm making progress

Re: bagged burb project..

Well, got one side of the front frame cleaned and painted (before and after pics below). Also, have the ride tech tubular arms painted and waiting for install. Finally, soaked the spindles in solvent and will be prepping them for paint soon. Hopefully, shooting some paint tomorrow night and putting the front together over the weekend
