Re: 1990 Chevrolet Sport forever project

The truck is looking great! I would love to get rid of my leaf springs in the rear...

And I have a question... I see you made a console with what looks like 2 speakers in it. If you don't mind my asking, what size are they and how do they sound?

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Sport forever project

Thanks, I had 2 10 inch subs in the center console. I then went to 1 10 inch sub of much better quality. With the one sub firing forward it sounds like all the bass is coming from the front of the truck which is more desireable. When I had 2 subs in the console I had one forward and the other facing backwards. It made the bass seem more like it was front and back. Here are some pics of the set up. The speakers in the pic are an 8 and a 10 just for reference.

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Sport forever project

It seems like the box is decently small. Am I right? I built a box to house two 8" subs but I can't get the sound I'm looking for. I think I might have actually built the box too big.

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Sport forever project

Yeah, my enclosure is about 1.25 cuft. It was built for 2 JL 10w3's. When I went to the subs in the pic above I only did one that needed .75 cuft so I had to make a wall inside to make it smaller.

It really depends on what you like and what you expect. If you want to be booming with rap music, you would be best to have a ported enclosure that is built to the manufacturer specs for the particular speaker. If you like a more even response a sealed enclosure to the manufacturers specs would be what you would want.

In this type of truck 2 10's will give great response, or 1 badass 10 with more power on it will do the job.

Thanks for the info! I think I am going to rebuild a box for a 10"/8" combo.

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Sport forever project

Thanks Dobok, I am a 20+ year comercial contractor. Kind of a jack of all trades, certified welder, custom fabricator. I also love to modify and build custom audio electronics. I dont really do any of it on a daily basis, mostly a hobbiest. My first car was a Nova with a 327 so cars have always been my passion.

I do have some pretty nice cars I've built in the audio competition community.

Here are a few, I messed up some pics but reposted them later in the threads.

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Sport forever project

Hey guys, funds have been low so I havent made much progress. Heres a little update though. I painted the rear with an epoxy paint, that saved me a few dollars over powder coating. The brake kit is from Kore3, basically all GM parts with Kore3 brackets to mount them. I probobly wont be doing too much more till I can afford some wheels. I think i'm going to do some Corvette wheels for now instead of custom. I'm really ready to get the truck back on the road for a bit, I miss driving it!

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Sport forever project

Thanks man, yeah I cant wait to get it back on the road.

I painted it with a cool product from Summit. Its a 2 part epoxy chassis paint that can be applied directly over bare metal. Seems like the perfect product to me, epoxy is very durable. Its a satin black color. I have several guns, the one I used is an Iwata W400. It was easily thes hardest paint job I ever did, laying on a creeper with a big ol cup on top of the gun. It was real hard to get in and out of all the tubes.

I'm gonna do matching C6 Z06 brakes. It'll be a bit, money is slowing me down.
