Seam Sealer?

What is the best Seam Sealer to use on the Cab Roof to Drip Rail seams on these great 'ol trucks we have?

I've got a '72 C-10.

Thanks

Re: Seam Sealer?

You can't go wrong with SEM or 3M products. They come in regular and self leveling. The self leveling is runnier but good for Suburbans and big projects. I used the SEM on my Burban. In my opinion surface preparation ismportant than the brand you pick. See page 3 of my WMB thread for some info on what I did.
Happy Caulking!

Re: Seam Sealer?

I've used Eastwood's 2-part self-leveling seam sealer. Like HO455 said, these 2-part sealers set up fast so don't do too much at a time and make sure you have any holes plugged. I think there are one or two in those rails for drainage.

Re: Seam Sealer?

Appreciate the replies.

WMB thread looks good.

Last time, about 15 years ago, I used 3M and smoothed it out with Reducer and a small brush, after chipping out all the old of course. Worked good, but I never primed and painted it and it has cracked through the years. Time to tackle it again. Still undecided on which way to go though.

Re: Seam Sealer?

Just checked on it and last time I used 3M Fast and Firm. Self-Leveling is sounding pretty good though.

I don't believe the sealants are completely UV resistant so the lack of paint may have been the reason for failure.

And thanks for the kind words.

Re: Seam Sealer?

I'm also wondering if brushing it with the Reducer may have weakened the properties of it. I got those directions somewhere, but not sure actually where.

I'm leaning towards self-leveling, but right now still not sure, lol.

Smile Re: Seam Sealer?

Hey Bill, most self leveling two parts should work, some brands will work in conventional calk gun, this may be most economical path saving price of new gun. I would recommend placing 3/4 inch masking tape on both sides of gutter, when caulking put light coat on brushing in with acid brush for adhesion then going over with a filler coat for looks, im mediately pulling tape off .pull tape back over itself so it gives nice line and doesn't string. Pat,. PS Philip brought my fender up last week, thanks
