Would you believe, I spent 2 years searching for an NOS tailgate, finally found one in tennessee, paid 500 bucks, 6 months later, the reproductions came out. Oh well, at least I have an original....
Still felt a little bad, I can confess here, nobody except CPNE knows me.

Ha! Ha ! Ha! Just kidding. $500 for NOS is not bad, and the early repros were not of the best quality from the stories I've heard.

Why would you take the hardware out of a perfect tailgate?

If it is a true NOS, and not a 'take off' (like you have hanging all over your basement) then there should have never been any hardware.

Now that i actually click on it, it is NOT a NOS gate, and is in fact a take off from a new truck 30 years ago.
Now I wonder the same question Joe.

A NOS wouldn't be painted, nor would it have a dealer sticker on it.
Up to 308 bucks...good deal still.

Red face

For a gate that was taken off after only three days and been in storage the paint on it doesnt look very good. It seems to be in good shape but still something seems fishy about it. Just my parnoia acting up I guess.

I would call the blue one a new take-off. Of all the 71's I've ever seen have the factory installed dsic-brake sticker attached near the top of the gate not down so low. Could have been a hairball mistake or ? The 2nd gate shown is a new NOS gate, never painted or installed. If I had an endless supply of $$
