Cab tank hardware question
I will be putting a cab tank into my truck this weekend and was wondering what hardware I will need. Sizes and numbers of bolts/nuts/etc. I've been running only with my aux tank all this time, with no fuel gauge, so I'm happy to get this tank in.
Also, I notice that some of the catalogs sell gas tank to floor pads. What do they do and do I need them? Would a cut up mudflap work?

Everybody and their brother has swapped their cab tanks to underbed tanks and nobody saved the bolts?

There are (7) bolts 5/16-18 x 1 1/2" with special washers on them. They used special flat rectangular washers to protect the tank, also.
You will want to put some kind of insulation material down where the tank sets. Something about 1/8" thick should work as anything thicker will throw the bolt alignents off. I may have a set of bolts and washers but there is no way I could get them to you by the weekend. If you want me to check, anyway, just let me know. Jim |

There's a pick-n-pull in Dallas. If they have the same policy there as here they puncture all gas tanks. consequently EVERY vehicle has the tank still installed. You could get all the hardware for the cost of admission.

Tractor supply will not have them. You could make the rectangular washers
out of 18 gauge sheet metal. They are approximately 2 1/2" x 1 1/4" wide with a 11/32" hole in the center. One of the edges on the 2 1/2" side is formed at an angle of approximately 10 degrees. (A 1/4" wide break). the angled side is adjacent to the tank itself when mounted. Jim |
