LED Headlight Issue

I installed a set of Morimoto Sealed7 1.0 LEDs on my 66 C10. Both lights have the standard H4 plug and a 4th wire with a female terminal which is for DRL's. I'm not to concerned with the DRL's right now but the issue is when I turn the high beams on.

Low beam everything works fine, when I hit the high beam the drivers side switches to high as it should but the passenger light turns completely off. Has anyone ran into an issue like this? Is it possible that some wiring is backwards even though its plugged directly into the H4 plug?

Re: LED Headlight Issue

How did it work with standard bulbs? I'm leaning towards something wrong with new LED Bulb. Check the voltage with a meter to confirm it's getting power

Re: LED Headlight Issue

Swap the bulbs from side to side and see what happens. If it follows the bulb, you have a bad one.

Re: LED Headlight Issue

.
Sounds like faulty new equipment to me. Can you swap the high beam "bulb" from the one that works to the one that doesn't? If so that would tell ya something.

If not then you'd be swapping the entire housing from side to side for the same test...probably not what you want to do.

I think even LED requires some sort of ballast so maybe you could just swap that component from one side to the other? Maybe that component is built into the housing though...

I think you're new LED High beam on one side is DOA.

Re: LED Headlight Issue

The suggestions provided to date are spot on. When installing it's best to plug everything in and test before final assembly, this way you can be sure both sealed headlights are working as they should and you have no wiring issues. If one is bad it's easy to send it back without having to disassemble. Please post info about which model you purchased if you can. Good luck!

Re: LED Headlight Issue

I'll have to swap the entire housing at they are sealed 7" round headlights. I'll try swapping them when I get home tonight and see if the issue follows the light.

Re: LED Headlight Issue

Thanks for sharing the pic. Curious if you have done any kind of wiring upgrade to your truck (i.e Headlight Relay kit)? Here is a link to a review I did for the 5 3/4 size LED lights for a 66 GMC: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=755421

No relay kit just straight plugged into the H4 plug. Do you have a link to the relay harness you used?

Re: LED Headlight Issue

I built my relay kit myself, it was a project and required investment in some quality electrical parts but it was worth it to me. There are many threads on this board that explain how to make your own or LMC sells a pretty good kit too, I have seen many on this board say good things about it.

Re: LED Headlight Issue

It looks like LMC does not have a harness listed for a 66. I should be good with the harness for 67-72 right? Or is that harness missing something I would need?

Re: LED Headlight Issue

Well the issue is not following that light. I'm assuming I need a relay harness to send the power to both lights.

Re: LED Headlight Issue

Trace the high beam wire back and see where it's losing power. It should have power even without a relay kit. You probably have a bad connection or broken wire.

Spot on, that's exactly what i did and i found a broken wire everything is working now!! I do want to get all new H4 connectors and wire and rewire is all so that's on the list now.

It would be nice to find a way to adjust the lights up a little more, with the truck sitting so low and it have a rake to the stance that dont shine as fast they could. Much brighter than stock though that's for sure!!

Thanks for the help. That's just low beam there, I'll grab some high beam and post them up too. I'd say if anyone is looking at this upgrade this set is on close out for $150 a pair compared to $600 a pair for the new model. Check them out!

Re: LED Headlight Issue

^^^ first pic is low beam and second is high beam. If I can get them aimed up a little more the low beam will be alot better but either way I'm very happy with these so far...
