How much for a 72 Cheyenne cab?

Good evening folks. I'm trying to get a consensus on what some of you think. I have an opportunity to buy a 72 Cheyenne cab (rust free) and wondering what some of you would pay for one. It has a SPID on the glove box and it is a Cheyenne, but a long bed. I'm looking at putting a cab on my short bed, mine has rust. I just don't have the room or time to replace panels on mine. Guy selling cab is looking at getting about $1200.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: How much for a 72 Cheyenne cab?

Looking at that compared to cost and time involved to repair rust it's worth it. Looking at that compared to buying a complete truck and parting it out it's a lot to pay. How bad is your rust that you can't keep driving as you repair? When you SoCal guys say your cab has rust it could simply mean you have the first signs of rust beginning, something considered a minimal repair in other parts of the country. Your cab may be worth $1,200 on the east coast!

The SPID, being a Cheyenne, and SWB vs LWB have no affect on price. If you have a SWB Cheyenne you just use your glove box door. If you are concerned with staying original you will paint original color and leave glovebox door alone.

Re: How much for a 72 Cheyenne cab?

Frankie P.,,BUY IT! a rust free cab is well worth it.Being I am in PA finding a rust free cab for any amount of money is nearly impossible.I am restoring a 72 cab right now and for what I have invested getting repairs done CORRECTLY I can only dream of having started with a rust free piece.Buy it even if it just sits covered in the corner...

I'd be tripping over myself to pay him what he wants. Then I'd hug him and buy him a beer after.

Re: How much for a 72 Cheyenne cab?

Thanks fellas.. The problem with my cab is the usual rust and PO shotty repairs. Not just surface rust. The previous owner patched some of the floor, rockers, etc. but left the rust underneath. I think my issue was that I don't really care about it being a Cheyenne or numbers matching. Don't care because it's a long bed SPID and not the color I want. And the seller is trying to sell me on the idea that because it's a Cheyenne, it makes it that much more a valuable truck.

The seller can believe whatever he wants and even try and sell you on that fact, in the end it all depends on what its worth to you. And my friend, $1200 for a rust free cab is excellent.

Rust free?
As in never any rust?
Or rust free as in everything has been repaired already?

Re: How much for a 72 Cheyenne cab?

there is no such thing as a rust free cab, even in california. in my experience unless it was stored indoors since new, around here they all have at least a little rust area at the bottom of the inside face of the kick panels. you may only see a little, but you need to remove (if not replace) the rockers and front pillars to fix it properly.

just my opinion but up here bare a/c cabs in good shape (let's say "rust free-ish") tend to go for more like 500-600 range. there is definitely a premium in socal.
