Sway bar ?

Did any 72 Blazer come with sway bars (4X4)? If not will 4X4 PU work?

I've never seen a factory sway bar on 4x4s of our era. I think they became standard in '73. The '73-up sway bar axle brackets will bolt in place of our truck's non-sway bar axle brackets. The upper bracket would need to be fabbed. I've thought about doing this to mine, but the fabbing of the upper bracket has things on hold.

It is fine to run with the sway bar connected all the time (use the '73-up axle brackets), but the hard core off road types use disconnects to increase axle articulation. Unless you fall into that category I'd suggest you save your money and not buy the disconnects.

I was thinking more of the up and down movement of the Jimmy during normal or off road driving. I do have 73 axle brackets. Since the sway bar is an add on, I don't think the geometry is correct, the sway bar and the front springs don't move in complete harmony. the anti sway bar bushings are becoming oval. Quick disconnects will give a pivot point at the axle which should save my bushings and improve my ride.

That's cool I did not know that there was a sway bar made for the first gen K5. The only problem is the geometry would still be off. I have a 4" lift the original spring was shorter from the front shackle to the axle.

Thanks everybody! Good infro. The lift kit that my son (orangeuavol) ordered comes with a bracket that adjusts the sway bar back to the right geometry. This was the reason that I figured someone made a sway bar for his Blazer, I just could not find it. Will check with GMCPauls to see if it will work with a lift kit. By the way it will be used on road only. Now if we could find one for the rear!!

Ive got one on my 72 if you dont have one buy the next time I go threw to Murfreesboro I will bring it to you with the braket I used to make it work for how a bought $30 for all of it. I used it with 6in suspention and 3 body lift Ill take pics tomarrow why I have the cammra here.

Sounds good there Earl! This is our 1st attempt at building a 4X4 so we are not up on all the in's and out's. I checked with GMCPauls and they said their sway bar for the front was for stock height only but I think we can make it work. Was you talking about the front or rear sway bar. Looking forward to the photos.
