Should I buy it?

Should I buy a 72 Longhorn that complete with a 402, auto a/c. Body is very rusty .I wanna keep the 402 . Is there enough left after I pay $800 to recoup my money selling extra parts?

Re: Should I buy it?

How much is the engine worth to ya? Could be worth that price easy. Then theres scrap or selling parts but depends on whats usable right?

Are you saying you want to keep the 402 and still make $800 off of parts? The engine and trans with brackets are worth the asking price running.

Yes, don't have the extra cash but would like a 402. I would sell everything else at Fair value to try to recoup the $800

Hard to say what is left after the engine is gone without pics.

Re: Should I buy it?

If the body is rusty everywhere it's unlikely you'll recoup the money spent on the truck as you're keeping the only valuable thing left of it. You could re-list the shell for $800 and just take the best offer though to get something back out of it. Lots of times it's not worth parting out when you add in your time to do it and the hassle.

Re: Should I buy it?

Like Reno said.....buy it, strip it right down.
Take everything off of it from the steering wheel, seat, door cranks, radio, mirrors, aerial, ...everything..... and prep them to sell them off.
Then take the bare skeleton frame to the metal scrap yard and you will probably get at least $100...probably more for the frame and rusty truck alone.

Re: Should I buy it?

....quick question:
What kind of condition is that motor in?...good compression or in need of a rebuild or?
If it needs a rebuild, the motor probably wouldn't be worth much. It would be easier to take all the brackets, etc off of the motor and find a good 454 in its place and perhaps 'badge it' as a 402 while enjoying the 454 power.

Just thinking out loud here.

Re: Should I buy it?

Pics and options s would help. There is always money to be made. Rear axle depending on gears or posi, tach, a/c and really rusty is a relative term pics will tell it all.

That's my thinking. Rusted body doesn't mean rusted drive train and frame. $800 doesn't go very far these days.
