Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

Hey y'all...I've been active over in the 67-72 forum, and have been helped a lot, and have even helped a few others. I am going to get rid of my lifted 05 F15 with 71K miles because it has been really problematic. I had an 04 Silverado a few years ago, and I really liked it. I have decided that I want an 04-06 crew cab 2wd, with the 5.3. I have located one that I like, but it has 160k miles on it. I think I can get it for around $9k. What do you all think? How long do these last with decent maintenance? What should I avoid? What should I try to find? Thanks for the help, and I hope to be on this side of the forums a lot more soon!!

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

i've been reading old threads since I posted this, and have learned a lot. I think the best thing to do is to take some money, and go see how it drives. The only reason I haven't is because its a 2-3 hr drive. Here's a pic.

Go for it bud. When you look/drive it if it's not up to snuff, walk away.

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

I bought my 06 GMC crew cab 4wd a year ago with 90k on it. It's a great truck. Rides better than the Suburban it replaced. No mechanical issues so far. The heater core blew out last summer and one of the heat/ac blend doors went bad. I bought an extended warranty with it and the repairs were covered. We love it.

Way too much for a truck that old, but it looks nice.

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

My vote is go for the blue one. 4-6 years younger, less miles and from what I've been told the 5.3 is plenty of power and gets better mpg than the 5.7. All that for about $500 more. But like Ron said give it a test drive (more than around the block and put it on the interstate if possible) and if there are no issues make the owner an offer. Who knows you might even be able to get it for less that his asking price. That's my .02

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

The first one is nice. 2nd one is way too high on the price. If it was the big block it would be worth more, but still not at 8500. Matt, my crue cab is probably only worth 3500-4000 and it's a 99 with the same specs as that one.

Always wanted a jacked up 4x4... Actually was trying to get one of these as a 4x4 when i got it... When you going? Where is it?

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

I sold the Ranger on Saturday, and the F150 is paid off. I wanted a two wheel drive because it will be better on gas and ride better. Lifted trucks are cool, but kinda a pain. If I decide I want or need a 4x4 in the future, I'll buy one that I can beat the heck out of, like an S10 or something. That Ford looks tough, and it is, but it's too nice and cost too much to tear up. If I do anything with the blue one, I will LOWER it, lol,,,,,bags???lol I'm going up to Harriman to check it out after lunch on Monday. I love the wheels on it, and those years have the most comfortable interiors ever!! I'm excited.

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

I'm excited to maybe have another LS motor, I loved my '04. The truck is basically a one owner, no wrecks or problems, spotless carfax. I had to pay like 30 bucks, but I'm glad I did.

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

I don't really like sellin em. The f150 would prob be priced at $18+ at a dealer, i've got it priced way below that, and that price doesn't even count for all the extras.

Naaa, I don't mess with dealerships. They want me to give them mine, and then pay top dollar for theirs.

Re: Need advice......HELP!! (buyin' a new one)

I want to get something a bit cheaper, and no dealership would give me boot. If i sell the truck myself, I can get a little more, and whoever buys it can get it lots cheaper than from a "stealership"
