speaker? for the radioheads

My 2000 GMC has a couple of front door speakers not working. Well one don't and the other buzzes a bunch. It has the factory radio I won't be changing. Should I go to the dealer or radio shop for replacement speakers? I really like the factory system's sound. Shouldn't I check for ohms or something going to the speakers to make sure it's not the radio at fault? Thanks.

Re: speaker? for the radioheads

My buddy tells me the speakers in the doors go out quite often. I am going aftermarket with replacements when I do it. Not sure what kind but I like Alpine and Bose.

Re: speaker? for the radioheads

I would go aftermarket. My nephew changed his out to a set of Alpine's in his 99, and they make a huge difference. I do agree though the newer trucks have a LOT better speaker and stereo setup than they did in the 80's and 90's. My 03 sounds great compared to my old 94

I work at a dealer. Those speakers are cheap junk. When my 06 speakers go out again, I will go to crutchfield for somethink pioneers. I am normally not into a lot of aftermarket stuff, buy gm speakers are just cheap now a days.

Re: speaker? for the radioheads

I did finally replace those door speakers. They were falling apart. I have never seen factory speakers do that. Used to speakers would last 20+ years but not any more.
I went by an audio store but found real quick they are very proud of their speakers. $99 each for a "good" 6" speaker. No thanks. I found some Pioneer 2 ways at Walmart for $60 a pair. It sounds just fine with my stock radio.

Re: speaker? for the radioheads

i kept my factory stock radio in my 01 tahoe but put factory replacment 3way fosgates all the way around and a small fosgate sub in the rear and mounted the amp where the old factory sub was. its clean simple and sounds great.

Re: speaker? for the radioheads

i replaced my two door speakers on my 01 with some 6 inch $85 kicker speakers. sounds much better and wont have to worry about blowing them again. easy and very simple to install.
