How'd you like to own a vette?

Working at a GM dealership, I had the chance to do a quote for a warranty brake job on a 2013 Corvette Z06.
I was shocked at the prices for the pads and rotors front and rear.

Y'all ready for this?

FRONT PADS PART #207042 PRICE = $906.00 PER SET (1 SET PER AXLE)
FRONT ROTORS PART #22805791 PRICE = $2,410.00EACH X 2 = $4,820.00
REAR PADS PART #19206975 PRICE = $672.00 PER SET
REAR ROTORS PART #22805790 PRICE = $2,410.00EACH X 2 = $4,820.00

TOTAL FOR 2 SETS OF PADS AND 4 ROTORS = $11,218.00!!!

Re: How'd you like to own a vette?

wow, imagine what the chain shops will get for a brake job on the car.

your figures don't have any bearing on my wanting a Corvette. I never much cared to drive or own them. Working on them is bad enough

Re: How'd you like to own a vette?

rock auto has the rotors for a mere $1476/$1809 ft/rr and pads at $350/$472. I'd do some shopping around. LOL

I think I will stick with the c3 vette might be underpowered but parts don't cost a restored c10 for them

Must be why they don't get driven much. Any thing over a '72, GM can keep (just my opinion).

When I owened a Vette, I found if you are worried about the costs.....you should not own one in the first place.

The 76 I owned didnt cost too much to repair ,no more than one of our trucks do..but if I needed body work then probably so ,,But the new ones have tires alone that cost as much as a whole set of my truck tires with wheels I believe..and I agree ,dont buy anything that you cannot afford to fix when broke...

Re: How'd you like to own a vette?

Most of them get sold before they ever need a brake job... and that's usually after 5-10 years of ownership...

If I ever buy a used one, I'll make sure the dealership just did a brake job before I buy

...and yes, I would LOVE to have a new C7!!!

Why is a 2013 anything, needing new pads and rotors already?!?
Warranty or not, that's insane.

Re: How'd you like to own a vette?

It's the price you pay to play. Buddy of mine had a vette, I don't know what year and he bought it cheap. But he also put a lot of funds into it as well. I like vettes but it would have to be something I could actually work on.

Re: How'd you like to own a vette?

Price isn't the biggest factor for me, its how fragile they and most super cars are. its space age this, space age that, "stronger" then steel this, stronger then that, but hit something at speed and tell me that.

Yes I want speed like I had with my 9sec drag bike [ kaw 750 2 stroke] but I also want it built like my Buick tank, something I could literally drive through a brick house and keep going........ and blow your doors off still once out the other side......

That ridiculous reasoning. The person who can afford the cheap and affordable version of a supercar [vette vs porsche, ferrari etc] can always afford to pay [optional $10,000 extra when buying the car] porsche ceramic brake job prices? I mean jesus thats like 10% of the price of the car for a normal wear item. I work at a high end used car dealership. When your talking big ticket cars that people have lusted their entire life over, some of them will give up everything they have to get it. Then no, they cannot afford $11,000 brake jobs. And there is absolutely no reason for those prices either. The manufacturers can try and reason it out as much as they want, but it doesn't fly with me.

Re: How'd you like to own a vette?

I just saw a Vette in Northern Ohio that I would not mind owning .It was a 2000 model that had been totaled bodywise and then modified to fit in and under a 1970 Chevelle body and was so well done you would have thought a well known shop had done it .It was built by a Canadian and his friend in a home shop and there is a build thread on Team Chevelle about it .He said it gets 27 MPG and is crazy fast .I followed the build from beginning to end and never thought I would get to see it in person ,I even got to sit in it .Hopefully next year I can go for a ride in it as he plans to bring it back.
