72 Step - Rust elimination = driver

The day I brought 'er home:

Did some digging and found that the PO had a crappy paint job done over crappy body work. Not sure what some people think... So I scheduled it to have the inner/outer rockers, cab supports, and cab corners fixed. So off comes the bed:

Don't want a garage queen with this just want to have a fun toy that's solid! This is my first "project" that isn't a motorcycle so I have alooooot of learning to do. Great forum great people! Thanks in advance for any help I may recieve!

My $100 Ford Super Duty rear seat:

Even though it's coming apart already I'm definitely in love! Sorry for the crappy pics.

Re: 72 Step - Rust elimination = driver

Thank you! Should I keep them? I can't seem to find lug nuts. I tried pep boys (supposedly good selection) and even online but none seem to be the same as what's on it now. The nuts on there are half stripped and all rusty. I was considering going to rallies for this reason but I kind of like the slots!

Are they ET type lugs? if so they are available.

If they are the flat washer type they are available too.

They're unique for sure, and while there are replicas they aren't available in too many sizes and offsets. Lugnuts shouldn't be too bad, they might not be local but Summit always has a good variety, I actually had good luck at discount tire as well.

Rally wheels are also in my top choices though, if I had my way I'd keep a set of both and swap out when I started getting a bit bored.

Thanks for the input! They are the washer type nuts. I'll have to check summit but yea I may have to do the "2 sets and swap em out"

Have you checked mileage with the 4.8? How did you do the fuel system? Tank relocation? Truck is looking good. Are you ditching the step bed all together?

Just got my speedhut gauge in the dash so I can check fuel mileage this summer...

Fuel system I did with fuel injection rated hose and fuel injection clamps, external pump, stock tank.

Step bed is gone for good

Have any pics of how you did your fuel system? I want to use the stock tank with my 5.3 as well!

Re: 72 Step - Rust elimination = driver

No pics on that. Feed - pump - filter - fuel rail - return (I have the return style rail). Used walbro pump, fuel injection hose and clamps. If money allows it go for the an fittings and hard line or braided stainless IMO.

Re: 72 Step - Rust elimination = driver

I was having problems staying motivated, so I tore it apart . The fenders and hood had alignment issues and I needed to clean up in the engine bay so why not go to town!

Should've done that in the beginning would've made the swap easier!

Re: 72 Step - Rust elimination = driver

Trim holes welded shut, flap disked, ready for filler! I think this is how you do it...

Plan on using white epoxy primer and just drive it like that for a while. Any input on that approach?

Cool build. I seem to remember looking at your build awhile back. I've looked at sooooooo many builds. Killer looking truck and I like the Ls. I'm curious about the mileage and power.
