advice on rebuilding 4x4 steering

I want to have all of my Jimmys steering components rebuilt, its kinda squirrely going down the road, and has a lot of play. I was wondering if any one had any Idea how much this should cost at a shop, as i really dont have the time to do it myself. or there some key items that could be replaced to improve the steering? (like bushings and what not) thanks alot

hj,

I just replaced all the steering components in my 4x4. My advice to you is to have someone jiggle the wheel back and forth while you watch the box, pitman arm, and tie rod ends. You'll be able to tell pretty easily where the play is. Then you can get a better idea of how much it's going to cost you.

New tie rod ends run about $25 apiece, new pitman arm can be found for $40 or so. Those are the most likely to go. My pitman arm was causing 90% of my play.

Steering box can be bought for $180 or so, but I doubt that's the real problem.

Labor would be pretty expensive, I would imagine. I did all mine myself.

GM parts would also be more expensive.

Hope this helps.
