Re: Rare Color Combo ?

Are you sure the Med Olive is original to the side, between the upper and lower molding. The reason I ask, on the SPID, with the "three tone paint" usually would say something like "Med Olive/Dark Olive/Med Olive". Just asking.

Years ago, A guy up the road had one, Dark Olive over Med Olive, and I thought it was neat.

Re: Rare Color Combo ?

We had one of those in our town too. Owned by a kid a year younger than me. A very sharp truck. It was a 2wd long bed.

Good question. The truck is for sale locally and I am giing to look at it this coming week. The guy that is selling has had it for 10/12 years and claims he bought it from the original owner and the oo had it restored at one time so maybe the is when the medium green was painted between the moldings.

Re: Rare Color Combo ?

The spid does show that it was originally a two tone not a three tone, although I have an original ochre and white truck that the spid shows it was a two tone, that I got from the second owner with original paint. When I pulled the build sheet from behind the seat ( it was still there ) that said it was originally a three tone. So I guess it did happen that the spid was not totally correct. That color combo is very nice. I've only seen pictures, not trucks in person painted that way. Good luck

Re: Rare Color Combo ?

Three-tone means three different colors. This one is a Deluxe two-tone,but was originally a Conventional two-tone (accent color top),if the SPID is typed correctly. I've seen them wrong before. The codes are correct for those colors, either way

Re: Rare Color Combo ?

Tim is right the paint code is specifically for a conventional two tone, med olive roof and a dark olive body.

Re: Rare Color Combo ?

You guys know your stuff. I finally went and looked at the truck and yes it is a two tone and has been painted between the mouldings. It still has thee chalk markings on the firewall under the hood and the wood floor was redone with plywood a while ago. There is a rust hole on the drivers side floor up against the rocker. I haven't made a deal yet.

No, I guess not. Now if I can just settle on what I want to pay for it. Its a USA truck from Indiana, a Cheyenne with factory A/C and up here those two options are rare.

Actually there are a few trucks around with the code 556 Custom Two-Tone paint option. The primary body color is 2097 Medium Olive Poly and the roof/upper cab is 2207 Dark Olive Poly. Inside it is going to look like any other 2097 Medium Olive truck.

These pictures are of code 556 Cheyennes.

Re: Rare Color Combo ?

The easiest way to tell whether a truck was a deluxe or conventional two tone from the factory at a glance is the first digit of the color RPO code. 4=deluxe / 5=conventional. No deluxe two tones were available with other than white as the accent color that I'm aware. Btw, Pete (Deadhead NM) had a nice lookin' K10 Cheyenne in his family with a (modified) deluxe two tone with the olives as in post #1. Agree, it's a nice combo!
FWIW, I have the opposite of the above conversion - I have a 557 that someone somewhere along the way painted over the medium olive roof with dark olive to make a solid dark olive truck.

Re: Rare Color Combo ?

I had a '71 that had the two tone green paint that I was parting out. It was original paint from the factory.
