1970 C10 Power windows, Power locks, Keyless entry install

I noticed there is not a whole lot of info on installing power windows & locks on this site so I thought I would share how I am doing it maybe it will help someone. If you are against cutting your doors or kick panels this is probably not the mod for you. Not saying it cannot be done but it makes life a whole lot easier.I never had to remove my doors thankfully.

Parts
-Electric life GM49-K power window kit
-Electric life 94201 Billet door wire looms
-GM power window switches (found mine in the junkyard)
-Autoloc KL550 Keyless entry
-A1 Electric 2 Door MES Central Door Lock Kit W01F

The first thing I did was remove the old regulators and installed the electric life power window motors. I found it tricky to get all rollers to line up by myself, would be easier to get someone to hold the glass when doing this. I also cut a access hole to remove the window motor in order to access the double wall inside the door which needs to be cut for the wire loom to pass through.

Here is a before pic of the inside double wall that needs to be cut for the door loom to pass through.

Once that was done I set about installing the door looms. I made the mistake of buying a set of door looms off ebay only to find out they were to small for all the wires to pass through (8 of them including door locks) so I had get the electric life ones which have the larger inside diameter. I placed the door looms at the bottom of the door I didn't want them to hit the window guides. I used a 3/4 hole saw to cut into the door pillar first then the door. This is the part you do not want to make a mistake on.

I cut a access square in the kick panels in order to install the looms and wiring.

Here I cut access holes and installed rubber grommets for the wiring to pass through above the kick panels.

Here is a little helpful schematic for the power window wiring

I had to notch both removable door panels for the GM switches to fit. I also had to notch the door itself for the larger drivers double switch to fit as seen here.

I also installed the power locks at the same time that I will write about a little later as well as the keyless entry.

No problems whatsoever having power windows is one of the better mods for sure. I love not having to reach over to roll the windows down. Power locks and keyless entry is nice too. Forgot to post pics of that hopefully not 2 years from now either lol.

Had the door panels thought I'd take some pics to finish this thread off finally.
I wouldn't recommend cheap door poppers these doors are pretty heavy. The A1 electric door poppers have held up pretty well no problems.

Not sure why these pics are sideways kinda annoying...
Here's the auto lock keyless entry controller on top of the wiper motor. Most of the wires were not used.

I changed out my lock cylinders and it made a huge difference in the amount of pressure needed to lock and unlock the doors.

Once the wires are run out of the door and into the jamb, how do you get them out of the jamb to the power source?

I ran them straight up and through a rubber grommet above the kick panel

Re: 1970 C10 Power windows, Power locks, Keyless entry install

Great info Beaumont@ ! I'm in the (unsuccessful so far) process of adding power locks to my '72 Suburban. I ordered some LMC power locks a few months back, but my door latch was so stiff I thought it best to replace that 1st - which I did. When I received the LMC kit - which wasn't very expensive (like $50) - it didn't appear very capable or sturdy. I thought I'd give it a try anyhow. I finally got around to attempting the installation yesterday. After much fiddling around, I have come to the conclusion that the LMC kit just doesn't have the 'umph' to unlock my doors. It locks ok, but unlocking just doesn't work. See the video here: https://youtu.be/8HgL5QqT0sk

I'm going to return the LMC kit, and hopefully find something better. I'm worried that another kit may yield the same results.

Question for you - did you find the A1 kit had sufficient power to easily open your locks?

Anyone else on this thread have good luck with high-quality lock kits?

I was looking at another thread (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...archid=5630034) about the same, but it has been closed since the OP "VH Coachworks" is no longer active or selling the kits.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,
IrieReggaeMan

Re: 1970 C10 Power windows, Power locks, Keyless entry install

I went with the strongest locks i could find which were the A1 electric locks. The doors on these trucks are heavy and need beefy actuators. I found that the locks are strong enough if everything is set up properly. So it will take some adjustments. I dont have the truck anymore sold it, but I remember the new door seals made it really difficult to close the passenger door it was too tight so that needed to be fixed.

Great info, any chance you have partnumbers for the GM power window switches or type/year of vehicle you pulled them from at the junkyard?
