Wait? You are in the military? Give me a call. I need to find someone with a CNC machine. I need a dash plaque/radio delete plate made. That pulley system looks pretty sick.

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

I have pulled the cab off of the frame and started to try my hand at body work and replacing the rusted parts.

I have cut out the rockers which were in good shape but the inner rockers and floor boards were in bad shape. I also started the task of smoothing the firewall.

In hind sight, when picking the sheet metal for the firewall I should have gotten cold roll 16 ga. The, I guess you could call it, slag was a PITA to grind/sand off.

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

I am quickly realizing that I am terrible at bodywork. I have "smoothed" the gas filler door and pretty sure I did a $hit job. Glad I don't make my living by doing this.

The replacement cab corners and rockers I got from LMC were terrible so I figured I would try Yearones out. They were made by the same company in Taiwan. Does anyone know of any American made cab corners that are worth a dang?

I got my frame off jack stands and leveled out so I can back halve it. I also started removing the rivets from the frame. I am waiting to install the PB mild dropmember so I can start back halving and installing the No-Limit Fatbar 4 link.

I will post some photos soon. I will let you guys critique the heck out of my crap gas filler job.

raull, thanks and if you are referring to the intake setup, I haven't made up my mind yet. I am still leaning towards the FAST LSXRT with the 102mm TB though.

This truck is looking good! Looks like you've bought all the right parts. Watching this one...

Quick question: what upper shock mounts were you using with your ART arms and stock crossmember? Looks like you were using a stock style shock?

I was able to get a lot done on the truck this last week. Here some photos of the frame work and my modified body mounts moved for a 3/4" body drop. Please critique...

Thanks man. I purchased the basic Fatbar 4-link from No-Limit, the F*%d 9" Centurian housing, axle tubes and housing ends from Currie and built everything else myself. With the rearend I bought an alignment kit from Mittler Bros and took my time measuring and re-measuring. I have enerything just tack welded in so if I don't like how it turns out I will just rebuild it. I did a lot of searching and studying on here until I felt I had a solid understanding of what I should do. Plus my first job was building fire trucks so I wasn't too worried about my fab skills.

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

I also started on a little rust repair earlier this week while I was waiting on some parts to show up. I don't understand how someone can replace a rocker panel and not replace the rest of the rusted out parts. On both sides one of the PO's had some work done on it and both sides had rust issues left behind. The drivers side was bad, just look at the photos. Lower A pillar was wasted as was the inner rockers. Why would someone take the time to fix one thing but leave the rest?

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Some updates from the past couple weeks. I had the Speedway Engineering Sway bar mounted but didn't like how it looked and am redoing it. I am also trying to figure out the cleanest way to build the cross bracing and transmission mount.

Geoff,

Thank you, it was good to meet you and see your incredible '68. It's a shame you are getting rid of her but I understand why. You take care also and hopefully, someday, we can get together again.

A couple more photos.

I started reinforcing the splice where the original frame meets the new back-half and started the X-bracing.
