DJM tubular control arms or CPP tubular arms

I am looking to upgrade my '68 chevy's suspension in the near future. I have searching around on the web and have came across two different companies that sell tubular control arms. For the price/performance/look, it is almost as expensive as rebuilting existing a-arms and putting new hardware in them.

What I am wondering is if anyone has any feed back from either DJM or CPP as far as the tubular control arms go. I know some of the tubular control arms lower the ride height, but I don't want to slam my truck.

Just look for some feedback from some people that have probably already search out various options.

i will be watching this thread, i'm thinking about using tubulars also. i've heard that CPP has terrible problem with not putting the correct parts in the right box - there's a few threads on this in the "reviews" forum.

i've got ECE in my sights...

think they will probley perform the same, but cpp has terrible customer service. so id go with DJM. BTW thats what im useing..... they are more beafer at the bushings and stick out a bit further then stock. but look good.

i just realized ECE doesn't sell a kit, how strange. i will need to look in my CCT and classic trucks mags to find who it was that had the tubular a-arms that were bags-ready.

where did you get the DJM arms from? right now I only want to change the upper ones for cost and to get the caster correct for my truck.

I feel A.R.T. (Air Ride Technologies) arms are the way to go. They are the leader in air ride systems and performance suspention. They have been in the market longer than most suspention companies have been around and their customer service is great. I bought my first air ride kit from them for my 71SWB over 7yrs ago and it has been problem free. How many people even knew what a bagged truck was 7yrs ago that did not have Peterbuilt or Kenworth in the sentance. Here is the link and our trucks are at the very bottom of the page. You can get DJM or many others from Summit. Sometimes I feel like a sales rep for them, but when you can get the stuff you want at the lowest price (they match anyone, but usually beat competitor's prices already) sent for $9, including cylinder heads blocks etc without paying extra shipping!! They carry DJM, belltech, etc. 1-800-230-3030!! They even have Air stuff (not sure about ART specifically, but call) If you want something they don't have they can get it, they have huge buying power and will not dissappoint!!

I wouldn't use tubular 'dropped' arms if they were given to me. Years ago my buddy bought a cool, original owner, short fleet 65 Chevy truck. This thing was as clean as they come & still had the factory paint that was faded down to the OE black primer in spots but otherwise..... no damage @ all.

He wanted to drop it but didn't want to pay the costs of swapping over to discs so he used some dropped arms. They were Chisholm's or SoLo's, I cant remember which one he finally decided on.

We installed them & trimmed a coil off the stock V8 springs as well for 5" of drop. As a reference, my 68 Beater has 3" spindles w/a coil trimmed off the factory 6cyl springs for 5~6" drop.

His truck managed to snag the lid of a city manhole cover & it literally bent the truck into an almost 'cartoonish' shape. You couldn't open the doors, the radiator ate the fan, it buckled the front fenders, & you could put your fist between the top of the bed & the cab..... but couldn't get a piece of paper in @ the bottom. What a waste. I warned him.... I'll warn anyone else that will listen too. The spring pockets on 'dropped arms' hang down too low & will catch something. Caveat emptor. . .....

hmmmmm..... ive got mine on and have bout 5" from lowest point on arms. and i currently (for rolling purposes) have a 28" tire on a 15" rim. even if i bounce on the front i cant get the arms to hit the ground. altho im sure driving and me bounceing are way different.

All I'm saying is buyer beware. I'm sure people have snagged stuff w/stock arms & dropped spindles it just seems those dropped pockets can hang on something much easier since they are the lowest point.

I drove the same road that my buddy hung up on every time I went over to his house & never had an issue. I've also been driving mine ever since (5+yrs now) & have only hit once in a construction site where the road surface abruptly changed.

If you compare amounts of drop of my friends truck vs mine, I was the 'lower' of the 2. But . . ..... his had the lower scrub-line which made him more susceptible to the damage he incurred.

Hey boozel67, how is the suspension performance since you upgraded to the tubular a-arms. I am looking for a-arms that will help out with the suspension and handleing. I am not concerned so much with lowering the truck.

The DJM link shows 3" drop tubular arms, but the CPP link doesn't say if their arms incorporate a drop. Oversight or are the CPP arms simply an upgrade in strength over stock with no drop?
