LS 4L60E transmission indication

Hey guys about ready to start the truck for the first time. I have installed HDX Dakota digital dash and it shows the truck is in 1st gear. I unplugged the obd2 connector and it reads gear X. I plug back in and it reads gear 1. So I unplugged the connector on the shift linkage and it still reads gear 1.
Any ideas? The motor and trans is a package. All came from the same vehicle.
Will this keep the truck from startingsince the Ecm thinks the truck is in gear??

Unless you wired in a starter relay and are using the NSS on the trans for that, then it wont keep it from starting, the PCM doesn't have that ability.

Re: LS 4L60E transmission indication

Ok tonight I tried to start the truck and everything but the injectors work. What I mean is I was able to test each injector and they all spray. I started the truck for a few seconds until it ran out of fuel. Any ideas?i know this is a different problem but you don’t think the ECM will keep the injectors from firing due to the gearing issue?

VATS is the only thing in the PCM that will keep the injectors from working. How did you test them? And how did it run if they aren't working?

I had made a tester/cleaner. I just connected it to each injector and hit the button and I could hear it spray. After testing each injector I hit the starter and the truck ran using the fuel I sprayed I guess. Each injector has 12+ so I know it’s the ECM. I checked all the grounds and they are good.

I did turn vats off in the tune under OS tab I believe. Any where else I need to check or do?

Re: LS 4L60E transmission indication

Ok after looking through hptuners forum I may have forgot to disable the starter diagnostics. I think I remember wondering if I needed to disable it but thought judt keeping it stock since I was using the stock components.
I will try this after work today and report back.

Re: LS 4L60E transmission indication

Ok so as soon as I disabled the starter fault checks it started right up. I will post a video on my build page.

Now back to the gear selector problem.

Re: LS 4L60E transmission indication

When I do digital dash using an OBDII scanner and a tablet in GM vehicles (or even Toyota vehicles) it always seems to report 1st gear even in Park, or Reverse.

How do you fix it? is it a setting in the dash setup or????

I don't, other than the display it hasn't ever impacted anything for me, so I haven't even looked into it. I'll do some digging though and see what I can find - the NSS works as they're mostly factory/stock vehicles. I'll also be picking up HPTuners soon so I can do some scanning and see if the computer picks up the P/N/R signal in a different way or if it just stays in "1" in those as well. I'll keep you posted with what I can find.

EDIT: A little digging, the PID used for Gear indicator literally just shows the gear, since "Park" isn't a gear it can't show that, neither is Neutral, and reverse is its own ball of wax. I am digging now to see if there is a way to indicate NSS/TPS Safe Start position which would be part of the battle, at least.
