Well I'm down now

I picked this 67 C10 back in October. It definatly has a farmer flare, but that can be fixed with a modest drop. I got a set of springs and drop spindles and here is my adventure.

What I started with.......who stole the hay out of the bed?

Here are just a few of the steps.

Look Ma.....Disc Brakes! Someone in the past stole the complete suspension off a 71 C10.

This are 39 year old brakes, with the original rotors. Look the assembly line ID tag.

Here is how far down one must go to install the front suspension. I love the fact that a spring compressor is not required, my other cars always need a compressor.

By the way ALWAYS check everything. I went to do a quick cleaning on the rotors before packing the new bearings. Look what I found, green sand (yes I see it is black but that is what casting sand is called) inside where the bearing races are.

After an extra half hour of cleaning out all the sand and checking the other rotor (all clean), I got back to assembly.

Here is what I ended up with........

OK it is little low in the front, I will be fixing that with a spring exchange. Well more work in a week or two.

Looks great!

The front will look better when you put the hay bales back in the bed!

Re: Well I'm down now

Well I went for a cruise around the block, suprising the tires only rubbed with the wheels turns going in the driveway. The truck has way too much rake in it, so the front is going to come up a little. This truck has to able to haul and tow, that means mild drop in the rear and a raise in the front to equal it out.

Hey 406 Q-ship, nice truck.

Front looks ok to me, just drop it an other inch in the rear.

The front ride height of yours is right where I am shooting for, that is a very driveable ride height.

Re: Well I'm down now

I have 2.5" drop spindles with 2" inch drop springs in front and 5" springs in the back with 2" loweringblocks. Thinking of replacing the blocks for 1" or 1.5" blocks.

2.5 drop spindles with "1 inch" drop springs, figured out too late that I had 3" drop springs.

Re: Well I'm down now

If you're wanting it to tow and haul, you should throw some airbags in the rear. That way you can get the drop you want and still haul whatever you want.

Re: Well I'm down now

Sorry I took so long to get a picture of the farmer at its new ride height. Not to tall not too low.......jusssssssst right. Drives a whole lot better too, now I have a pinion seal leak to deal with on it.

Those are stock rims off of a 1988-1998 GM 1500 with trim rings. They cam with the truck and I have not measured the backspacing.
