yeah i posted a thread awhile back about this being forsale on ebay about 3 weeks ago, i don't know if anyone actually bought it, i know if i had the money i wouldn't have touched it....

I agree on the driving it part but that is a pretty sweet creation. I'm not sure how they could have put over $175,00, I guess they were counting expensive labor hours. I'm sure we'd have some trucks on this board worth just about that much if we included the labor

I's probably take the Ferrari, then the Blazer. The Benz and Porshe can take a back seat though.

It has changed hands a couple of times since it was built. Wonder if everyone is makeing money on it or loseing money.

i read an article on that blazer. all the work has been done by big name owners like boyd coddington. every panel has been reworked in some way. it was in truckin magazine about a year or so back.

I used to have that truck in my avatar. When people started thinking it was mine, I swapped it out for a pic of my real truck.

This is another one of those "completely custom" vehicles.

There was another posted not too long ago that, like this one, had nothing left of the original vehicle except the VIN tag.

At this point, #1, how do you define what the vehicle is? Is it REALLY a 1971 GMC Jimmy? I'd say no. There are certainly no parts for a '71 Jimmy that would fit on this truck.

#2, how do you EVER value something like this? Anyone who's ever had any work done knows that you can't simply add the cost of the work done to the price of the vehicle. My guess is that the people who are really willing to pay the big bucks for a "completely custom" vehicle would rather build their OWN in their image, so to speak.

I think ultimately these are like the "follies" of the Victorian era -- a labor of love and a monument to the builder that never recoup their cost. Their true value must ultimately be in the pleasure derived from BUILDING one, as opposed to OWNING one.

that was in Classic Trucks mag a while back when it was finised, i think the frame was built by bod cottingtonor something but it was finally finished by Buttera, whoever that is

John Buttera, builder of everything! He's been doing custom car fabbing for decades. Hot Rod magazine did a "career of..." story on him a couple of years ago. It's worth the read.

What do you all think of the paint on this? I'm thinkin' of the same on mine but go with red on top and a silver stripe. Of course my job won't be like this truck. I've read the story and studied the pics. I think this design would look good. Any thoughts or comments. Thanks Weasel

Before we go too far, we may want to think about thanking those able and willing to spend large amounts of cash for hot rods of all sorts. They are the folks that make aftermarket parts possible for the rest of us. They pay folks like Coddington and Foose to come up with creations that are widely copied and knocked off at lower prices.

Now, if I value my time reasonably I figure I have about $250,000 in labor in my truck. I'll give anyone a 95% discount off that price if they buy by the end of the week! Going once.....

Thanks for the link Glen. Good write up on the Blazer/truck. One thing I noticed though - It states in the article that the truck has had several owners in the last 20 years but the Ebay auction states it's a one owner truck.

I would believe the several owners myself.

Take off that Von Dutch hat before i stab you with a 000 Mack.
