STock Paint details?

Wondering what the correct coloring is for underneath a Blazer?
Is it all body color, is it a primer, is it a combination?
What were the rear inner wheel wheels painted?

Stole some pics from DeadheadNM build thread. I think these will be correct, but checking. Inner rear wheel tub is white, as is the riser behind front seats? Is there a colour code for this white?

My 1970 Blazer is all body color (Bronze) for the tubs, and every exposed metal surface. Underneath, it appeared to be primer where it wasn't all rotted.

Re: STock Paint details?

The rear inside wheel tubs were body color except for the Blazers with Highlander option. I believe the underside was all black, not positive on what level of finish but I think a semi gloss finish was close.

Re: STock Paint details?

The white shown on the wheel tubs and step face is specific to St Louis assembled Highlanders. All the others, including Flint Highlanders, were body color.

Mine never had the white paint. I've owned it since 1990, and it had original paint then.

Well, I can’t say yours isn’t the exception. Certainly, exceptions exist. One member had an all white blazer save for a medium blue paint glovebox door akin to a GMC color scheme. Can you provide any example photographs of the step face or wheel tubs that show original paint that document your claim? Is it possible in the years before you purchased the Blazer it had a repaint (or a tub swap)?

There aren’t many original paint St Louis Highlanders to draw insight from. We went through this beginning in July 2017 with original paint examples from the plaid thread where more photos of your Highlander would be welcome. Anyone who wants to see examples can see the thread.

Some individual post links here but there’s a lot more on the full thread:

Re: STock Paint details?

I don't think I have any pics of the interior from when I purchased it in 1990. Just going from memory, as that would have stood out. I stripped all the body paint to bare metal around 1992.

I'm pretty sure tub was not swapped or painted, but anything is possible.

The same randomness applied to the door latch paint.
Mine was originally 505 Dark Green, but was mistakenly painted the 506 Dark Green.

I do have the original highlander rear seat, no arms or rear feet, a little rough, but usable.

I've skimmed that thread before, I will give it a read again and add some pics.

Re: STock Paint details?

Pics or it didn’t happen

You bring up a good point I didn’t realize until after my St Louis Blazer was painted. This plant for the 72 MY painted door latches, unlike prior model years and seemingly unlike other plants at the time. Other GM plants seemed to have adopted this technique as square body trucks from Flint had painted door latches.

Re: STock Paint details?

I only have recent pics on this PC.
My door latches were also repainted over, can't remember how they were when I bought it.

Built 02/72
