I'm back! 59 4x4 Panel upgrade

I've had my 59 1 ton since 79. put the running gear off a 73 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban under her in 98. North of 750,000 miles. I've done construction from Austin to Fairbanks. I'm nearing retirement and I'm ready to start taking her to the next level for off road camping. Power steering is in process right now (I'm getting too old to palm the wheel). I'll be asking a lot of questions about the tech and aftermarket upgrades. I'm also posting in the 4x4 Tech forum.

She looks pretty straight and solid for all of those miles. Very cool!

I like it! I'm doing something similar with a 1 ton '47 panel.

Re: I'm back! 59 4x4 Panel upgrade

Thanks, I often wonder if I should have done a frame swap. I got the 73 k20 Burb
when I lived in Valdez, Alaska. It had been partially crushed by 14 feet of snow and I took it as partial payment for a kitchen remodel. Had to dig it out. It had been parked for years and the tires were frozen into 6" of ice. Replaced 2 flat tires, poured some fresh gas in the carb and put in a new battery ...good to go! I drove it back to Fairbanks with no windshield and you could watch the road go by the rust holes in the floor. After I got the running gear I couldn't even get a junk yard to take it, Sent it to the crusher.

Re: I'm back! 59 4x4 Panel upgrade

Nice!
I figure my old girl deserves to be finished. I swear, I only did the suspension swap because the original was so shot. It was a full time job just keeping between the lines she w azad ndered so bad. She holds a queen mattress across the benches and I have a chuck box that fits between the benches and pulls out the back doors for cooking. And there ain't no place she won't go.
