first day of rain in like 3-4 weeks, wonder if it will be enough to lift the fire ban...doubt it
actually dont matter, wife went and bought us a "campfire"
one of them propane thingys, fire ban legal. her theory, whats camping without a fire? i guess, but i dont get to feed it or "play" with it.....

Haha. I'm with you. We make such gnarly fires in the desert that you can't get near them. I had myself a 6' fire poker made. The black smith at the Ponderosa at Lake Tahoe made it for me way back when. One of my prize possessions!

hey...nice pair MTCK!
is that a toyhauler beside the camper?
c'mon now, don't be a bogart, share some of that beautiful AlaSka countryside with us...
this was our t. trailer at Boya lake (couple miles from the yukon border) on july 1 at 11:30-ish at nite....

only being up there for a couple weeks, it was a hard (and weird!) thing to try adjust too...

Re: post up your camping pics

going on 6 mos MTCK!
quit mar 18, tough, but i'm done wasting 20 bucks a day on them....
i also learned a couple things today. one, i'm old. not the go-anywhere young buck anymore, just a 50 yr old roofer...hiked close to 30 miles today, with almost 4 of them strait up and down, and man oh man, i'm really feeling it right now. also learned a bear banger can work pretty good too...
our province has been burning big time this yr. the smoke from wildfires has blanketed the valley again, can barely see the mountains around my place
Name: 1110.jpg

so i decided to get out of the smoke today, and headed up the Coquihalla.
seems to be some smoke at the bottom of the Coke too..

you never know what you'll run into on the Coke, like this truck-less load of 2x4's going up in flames

lots of construction going on the Coke right now. fixing the bridge at Dry Gulch

oh man SNJ, this is now offically the worst fire yr on record up here.
in 2 months over 2.4 million acres gone up. and the worst part is most of them are caused by people being IDIOTS. a lot of people have lost their houses, barn's, vehicles, pretty much the opposite of what is happening to Houston. We would LOVE to take some of that rain off Houston's hands....our backcountry literally explodes it's so dry
around where i live we're lucky and only have 1 fire going right now. We have a big lake (Harrison) near us, so water bombers can get on top of them pretty quick, but with our mountainous terrain, it's still a big challenge... and the idiots are a challenge too. some yahoos lit up Bear Creek at Harrison on july 1st. the fire crews told the people camping at Bear creek, Silver creek, and Cogburn beach to evac. When the fire crews went in to fight the fire, they had to stop and put out 3 unattended fires from the campers-like jeez, how stupid can you be?
they almost have it under control now, 'bout 70%, then last Sat (can ya belive this???) some bigger idiots went up there and lit up another fire. it's only been blasted all over the tv, radios, newspaper, massive fines, and they still do this...
just saw on the news, normal rain for july/aug-75 mm (3") this july/aug so far-10 mm (.3")
smoke comes and goes depending on the winds. some of the fires burning are so massive (Elephant Hill, half a million acres) they create their own winds, and when it's outflows, we get smoked.
we just went through 3 weeks of this at the beginning of the month
surrounded by 8000ft mountains and can't see a single one

jeez, with the humidity it's climbing over 100....we just can't seem to catch a break
much too hot to be in our non air conditioned house, so took the fam damily to Andy's lake up the Coquihalla. took wife's truck too, so nothing but pavement and gravel roads....
when i went to Vicuna last week, there was 9 choppers parked in this field (fire fighting). only 3 today but no traffic so i snapped some pics. looks like (not a chopper expert...) a huey, and a bell 407 and a bell 212

and with the kid, had to once again stop at McDicks. while sitting in the drive-thru line up, this thing rolled up. i got no idea what it is. looks like some kind of redneck road grader rat rod...it had 4 slicks on the arse end, but was gone by the time we got thru the line up...

Re: post up your camping pics

Here's a quick report of a run I made a couple of weeks ago with some friends, my wife and son as well as my Nephew. He's in the Black Rubicon and had not wheeled off road as a driver before. He's ridden with me, but never drove so he wanted to come out with us.

We hit 3 trails over three days. Day one, Tincup pass. Day two, Reno Creek/Italian Divide. Day three, Pearl Pass. Each day the trail got progressively harder.

The other two rides with us are friends of ours, the red Jeep we had just added a 2.5" lift and a fresh clutch a month earlier. Other than that it's stock with a 4 banger and open diffs front and back. The Yellow TJ is loaded with ARB's front and back and all the other goodies.

Great pics, Rob! K5 looks like it is doing exactly what you want. I'm expecting to see a write up on that FWC pretty soon as well as Desert Trip.

Outside of my overheated fuel system acting up again, it walked over everything. Pearl Pass is rated difficult and I agree. Steep, narrow and rocky going up and down. I drove right over every inch of it without cracking the throttle over 1500 rpm. It just crawled and that front tru-trac just pulled through every tight spot. It's so cool to just finesse it over the rough stuff than beating it like a rented mule and hammering over stuff.

The FWC has been something I've been searching for a very long time. I'll update the build thread with some new info. I need to finish wiring up the report for the desert trip. I'll I can say is it was epic. Most fun I've had on 4 wheels. That says a lot as I've done a lot of stuff with 4 wheels.

Always ready to show another around. I'm sure we are going to do more weekend trips in the future.

We saw a lot of cows. A lot of the area we were on is open range. Saw a few smaller white tail deer, but no elk. Moose is in the area too, but didn't see any.

I can see them all on my end. Might be vista. Funny you can see some but not all as they are all on Flickr.
