Replacing/Finding a '91 Suburban 2WD R2500 Center Link

I recently purchased the front crossmember and steering/suspension from a 1991 r2500 2wd suburban to put into my 1960 C10 truck to get springs and disk brakes. Before I was able to get the parts, the steering box was removed from the 91 by cutting the end off of the center link. The seller said I would be able to find the center link at any auto parts store.

I now need to replace the center link but for the life of me cannot seem to find the appropriate part number for a replacement. Would the center link from any of the 73-87(91) trucks or suburbans fit? I was able to find a DS1047 from a 82 Jimmy at a local AutoZone but I keep finding conflicting information about fitment.

Is there another direction for me to look? Am I stuck digging through my local Pick-A-Part?

I just went online parts shopping for you and I think I might have found the issue. It seems that the parts places confuse R2500 and V2500 and think they are both 4wd, which they are obviously not.

I looked up the part for a C2500 (RWD 3/4Ton Chevy) and got this, which you know will work, since the front end of a Suburban 2WD 3/4T is the same as a Truck, right?

Hope that helps, you should be able to go to you local Napa parts store, and order a C2500 from the same year truck (personally NAPA has treated me RIGHT over the years, get to know the folks that work there!) and if it does not fit they will take it back.

One note is that the 3/4 and 1/2Ton trucks (I *believe) will use different steering components.

PS don't you HATE it when people use a TORCH instead of a Wrench? God god.

Unless I'm mistaken, which is entirely possible, the 88-91 suburbans are a different, older(73-87), body style than the 88-99 Trucks. Which is why they use the R and V designations instead of the C and K.

The suspension changed with the body style right, did the center link stay the same? The part you linked looks to be a DS1406 which fits the 88-99 full size trucks.

I think you are right on that; which means my comments were WRONG!

For the life of me I cannot find a center link for the older generation of trucks.

I would say this though:
* I would assume that your 1991 Sub (front end) is the same as the older generations, Meaning the center link and steering set up should be the same from 1973-1991.
(this is an assumption to TEST mind you)
* I would assume that 3/4Ton and 1/2Ton steering set ups are different.

The good thing for you is that Junk Yard these days are very well organized AND this part is likely not in high demand, so it should not be very hard to find.

I checked rockauto but didn't see one. That part should be the same across the square 2wd 2500 trucks. I would try the junkyard.

You won't find a new one unless it's a GM part. GM number is 14067697.
Runs from '83 thru '91 in Subs and to '87(up to '91 R3500) pickups. Might even work from earlier trucks as well.
1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton C series 2wd use all same steering rod.
It's considered a non-wear part and was never made.
A junkyard part totally fine as long as it's not bent or rusted.
