1959 Chevy 1 ton Panel Restoration

Looking for someone with knowledge of 1959 Task Force Chevy Apache paint codes. I keep running into a dead end. Found some related info in 1960's + forum, but further confuses the issue. I have paint code 705 and no letter following, so I know the original was a solid color with bombay ivory hubcaps and bumpers. Seems pretty straightforward, but I have come up with (paintref.com) Woodland Green, Hemlock Green, Glade Green - and in the 60's + forum: Neptune Green - none of which look alike. The panel truck has rusted, been primed and rusted again. Someone even brushed painted a hideous green house paint over some areas at one time. To make matters even more confusing, the only evidence of an original paint color is on the firewall under the grease, and inner fenders under the hood, and that paint is a fairly dark blue - almost turquoise color. Would they have painted the exterior of the truck green, and the engine compartment blue? On the one hand, I'd like to go all original, but if the true history of the paint codes is non-existent, it won't really matter, and I'll just make it Tartan Turquoise and bombay ivory two-tone. I would appreciate any help I can get. I haven't posted any pics or other info yet; it's coming. Still a rust bucket though.

My 58 is supposedly Woodland Green. You can see it on the firewall.

Thanks Cyrus,
At least. Now I know that the firewall has the original body color on it.

Thanks, Poncho-Villa, but that's the exact link that gives me three different colors for code 705 for 1959 Chevy Trucks - and they are all green. Unless one of those greens actually looks blue like turquoise, I still don't know where to go from here.

I will say though that the Glade Green color chip does look more blue than green. Guess I'll have to do a little more surfing for glade green trucks and see if they look blue.

I found this truck where the owner says it's original right down to the Glade Green exterior and gray interior. This truck looks BLUE to me, and looks a lot like the color on my firewall. This is a cool color. I like it.

Re: 1959 Chevy 1 ton Panel Restoration

Dare I be "impertinent" and ask, "Which of the colors you've mentioned do you just like the most?"

I have a little trick I use when I'm thinking (fantasizing) about different cars or trucks I'd like to own. I had a Porsche 911 I restored and it got lots of attention whenever I drove it. I liked it a lot. BUT, I wanted a '55 big window truck.

I would imagine myself pulling up to a stop in my 911 in its perfect condition and imagine a nice '55 big window truck in the same nice shape I wanted. I ask myself, do I wish I were driving THAT? Or am I happy I am in THIS?" Then I know which I want more. I sold the 911 and found my '55!

Maybe the same will work for you by imagining your panel in one color versus another.

Re: 1959 Chevy 1 ton Panel Restoration

Well, Dan. I think I can have the best of both worlds if my 705 paint code looks like that truck in the link I just posted. I've got the truck I wanted, and if the code turned out to be a green I didn't like, I'd go for one I did like. But that Glade Green is a pretty unique looking color. I think I'd be happy with that one, and I could stay original to boot. Thanks!

Whatever you pick, it'll look great.

BTW, Chevy ought to have fired the guy that named that BLUE truck a color called green! lol.
