shortbed with helper springs question

does anybody have pics of the bumper brackets mounted to the frame with factory helper springs . i am cutting a longbed down to a short and it says i have to take a few inches off the back where the bumper brackets mount , and i will be towing a trailer from time to time so i dont want to give up the helper springs

Here is a picture of my 71 donor frame with helper springs. Looks like you will need to fab some brackets to make them work together.

Did they even put those helper springs on short wheel base trucks?

Well I don't know if they ever put them on a SWB or not. The picture I posted is a '71 LWB that I cut down to make a SWB. What I do know is that at the very least firedeamon will need to drill bumper bracket holes. Most likely firedemon will also need to make some bumper brackets. If he makes them he could make them so that they hold both the helper springs and bumper brackets.

i watched the brothers videos on doing the shortbed i am using their kit and it wants to cut the existing bolt holes off it shows their template drilling new holes about where the brackets are for the helpers . i am betting your both right they probably didnt make the shortbed with the helpers and im going to have to fab something up

Keep us posted on your progress. I may be doing the same thing as you if I lower my truck. I'd use the helper springs to keep it from bottoming out.

With the brothers kit I believe you cut 6 " off the back of the frame.

Big bird you cut a total of 20" out of the frame. 12" out of the frame under the cab and 8" off the rear of the frame. Here is a picture of what you have it cut and the holes drilled for the bumper brackets.

Peanut 74, Thanks for the redundant answer on cutting 12 from under the cab. I believe the question was and my answer was how much you cut off behind the axle.

Just to be clear, you cut 8" off the rear of the frame behind the axle to make it the same length as a stock short bed frame......

Boy I hope I cut 8" off of my frame and just typed it in wrong.

Well BigBird I hope you did also. If you used the brothers template kit you should be fine. While it would suck if you just cut 6" it is better long than short. Cutting off 2" is a lot easier than welding 2" back on.
