Re: Parts still available from the GM Dealer

Every time I call them they laugh at me. Locally they don't have anything unless the vehicle is newer than a 2010. When GM burned all their vendors a few years back by filing BK a lot of parts went away-----forever.

It's actually easier to get parts for my 50 year old trucks than it is my 91 Suburban.

I never tell them the vehicle that I am working on. I provide them with current valid part numbers. You can verify part numbers via gmpartsdirect.com. To look up parts numbers, gmpartswiki.com is invaluable.

Could be: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...30&postcount=5

The only way my local parts guy could get it at the time was to take overnight delivery. Routine orders were not being accepted at that time d/t virus related back log at the Lansing SPO warehouse.

When I was working at the Lansing SPO warehouse in the 70's, you would have cried at the parts that we put in the crusher. Obsolete after 9 years.

Please stay on topic. Share if you have bought a new GM part from the dealer recently, and part number too.

Re: Parts still available from the GM Dealer

I've never bought a local original part in my life. I take it back, found a defrost vent 25 years ago at the wrecking yard, the guy says shoot, I didn't know it was there

There aren't many trucks locally and the wrecking yards cleared of them a long time ago. I remember wrecking yard that had quite a few. He ended up scrapping what was left, and apparently a local repop. dumped tons of OEM decades ago as well. If they only knew.

Re: Parts still available from the GM Dealer

Funny. This thread reminds me of when I bought my 69 C10 back in 1989. I could still buy just about any part you can think of from my Chevy dealer.

Outer grille ($120-something)
Cab mount bushings
Cam, lifters, and timing set
Gasket set
TH350 frame-to-trans shift bracket
Wheel bearings and races

And lots more small parts I've forgotten about.

I was able to talk one of the counter guys into giving me jobber pricing for the used car lot where I bought the truck, so my price was 25% off list or better.

I picked up my C-10 same year. There were one of these trucks on every block locally. Now I see one occasionally. I bought my grilles off "Chevyland" in Sacramento about the same time for $250ish.

Yep. I drove my C10 there from about 100 out because I had thoughts of a bed plastic bed liner for my old bed. They or a yard next door? said they had one. Sure, with a 4 foot long crack in it. Engine was running HOT, must have been 100 some out, the engine was tired anyway and I had the heater running.

Couple years later I bought 15x8 Rally's, with caps that are almost fully chrome out of Sacramento too. If I remember right the wheels are stamped 1992. Bolts too, that I can't seem to find at the moment, think I had them zinc plated forgot to list em Decent caps and the wheels great. I paid $300ish shipped.

SMOKING deal on NOS caps and bolts for sure, just four years ago too @ $150 & not a mark on them. Deals were out there until recently for the most part. The two stainless (73) version NOS caps I picked up four years ago run 3-4x my cost. I need two more Nice to have the option

Re: Parts still available from the GM Dealer

Brings back some memories of my Michigan days. When I was 17, I rode my bike to the local GM warehouse (Drayton Plains, MI) and bought with my dads GM id, a pass side brand new fender for my 72 swb for $69.38 cents and holding it with one arm and riding it back home on my bike.

The last I heard, they stock nothing over 3 yrs old now. The good old days are gone
