Windshield install cord?

I cant find the cloth cord Ive used in the past to install a few windshields, it'll turn up after I buy new.

I'm just trying to remember what the best side cord is to use. I feel like mine was standard clothes line size. Does that sound right?

Re: Windshield install cord?

You can also use pull cord from a small engine

Re: Windshield install cord?

Hmmm, thats a good idea. Never even crossed my mind. Probably a little stronger than clothesline cord

Re: Windshield install cord?

We would use cotton cord but first we would coat it with bees wax . Just put a glob in one hand and run the cord threw a few times . Makes it that much easier to manipulate in the rubber

I wouldn't recommend the weed wacker string. There is a good chance that it could cut the rubber gasket if you have to pull on it very hard .

Just my 2¢ worth....

Yes I agree, but the paracord sounded good.

Re: Windshield install cord?

I got one of these:
https://www.prp.com/product/detail/1...ools1&type=All

It worked great. It's a little thinner that what I had used in the past...

Used their lubricant on the glass side of the weatherstrip.
https://www.prp.com/product/detail/3...ools1&type=All

Sprayed the truck with plain water and I'm not afraid of doing windhshields anymore...

Re: Windshield install cord?

Weed wacker string works on old gaskets when they're not cooperating.
And that is the only thing I had that wouldn't break pulling that hard.

But the paracord works well on a fresh (er) gasket

Re: Windshield install cord?

My preferred pull-in cord when I was running my glass business was 3/16 hollow braid nylon. Nylon slips over the rubber more easily than cotton.

Re: Windshield install cord?

Using a cord or rope a bit thicker than paracord makes install much easier and will save time and frustration.
